I don't know if i have seen one. the fronts you don't have to pull off the caliper just at one pin on the middle of the rotor, the front pads just fall out. You have to get the litter wire/ sensor off the old pads and on to the new pads.
The rear pads you do have to remove the caliper to bolts upper and lower bold caliper comes off. Han it on a spring with a piece of coat hanger and pry the old pads out. Be real sure when you put the retainer spring back on the new pads that it is even across both rear pad backing plates or the pads will hang up and make a rubbing sound.
You should replace the caliper bolts, but I reuse mine one time. they should go back to 63 foot lbs. Picture is the front caliper after removing the retainer bolt and sprint and the pads just fall out.

thanks frank. seems all the writeups are talking about a retaining pin but i guess 997 is different. know what the torque is on this bolt?

Joe

I have a service manual CD for 2005-2006 997 which should apply to our GT3/RS. It does not mention any tightening of the retaining pin but rather just "fit" the retainer pin etc. I took couple screen shots of the front and rear brake pads DIY instructions for your reference.

The service CD is only $65.95 and will come very handy for your future DIY projects. e-mail plasticexperts if you like to get one: PlasticExperts@aol.com

mike thanks for the snapshots. see, even your manual is talking about a retainer. see arrow.

here's from my car. don't see it.

looks simple enough though... guess i can just try to figure out how much torque is on there using my torque wrench...

Interesting ..... your retainer is not held on by a safety pin? I thought all 997 pretty much come with same brake set up ... I guess not? You can call Fremont Porsche tomorrow and ask to speak with a tech to get the torque spec. Guesstimate the torque with your torque wrench is not a good idea since it often take more torque to loosen the bolt.

Your caliper picture above must be taken from the back right? My PCCB calipers look different from the outside as shown below. I have not pay attention to the inside of the caliper.

yes my pic above was from the inside. here's from the outside. there's no way to slide that pin to the inside as the manual suggested. lol.

Joe, thanks for the clarification. I have not work on the brakes yet so my knowledge is limited. I do plan on swapping out my PCCB with some form of steel rotors to save money since each PCCB rotor cost >$3500 to replace!? Let me know what Fremont Porsche says tomorrow

Mike

ya that's a hefty price tag on pccb. i'd probably do the swap as well if i had it. of course you're going to measure the weight difference between iron and pccb right?

off to tahoe tomorrow. planning to tackle this friday when i get back. i'm putting pagid rs29 all around.

Nice, have a good trip. Post DIY on the brake pad replacment if you can since there are NO information to be found any where. It will be helpful for others.

Would you be disappointed if I didn't weigh PCCB vs steel rotors? lol

Oh, BTW. I left TH after one session last Friday. It was windy, freezing and the track was still kind of wet. A Honda S2000 morph into the wall at turn 11 and another P-car spun right in front of me in to the dirt after turn 3. I almost lost it at turn 5. Too dangerous for my taste. It started pouring after lunch. Mooty was in the lunch time exhibition race and couple cars spun out at turn two 1 lap into the race. It started to rain at that time but I don't think those guys noticed lol

I did some inquiry today and apparently the retainer is none weight bearing so all you need to to is hand tighten and no need to torque the bolt
