Question about fair price for 99 GT3 conversion
Question about fair price for 99 GT3 conversion
I've located a 99 U.S. model 996 that has been converted to GT3 specs (99 Euro) by a well known Porsche raceshop. The work appears to have been done very well, and I know the person that did the conversion and can get the inside scoop on the car. The quality of the conversion is not a concern, I mention it just for context. Also for context, the car is immaculate.
Here's the question, what on earth is the fair value of such a car.
If purchased, I would turn it into a race car. I would gut the interior and keep some pieces, and sell of the other pieces. I am not interested in acquiring this car for authenticity or resale value or anything like that. Rather I am interested in it as a bargain priced racecar (I know, an oxymoron). At the same time, I don't want to be taken advantage of by overpaying.
Any ideas for how much such a car should go for?

Generally a car's value is based on what the car was originally... no matter what was done with it. I would look up with a standard 99 996 coupe is worth, and add a little bit if you feel its worth it. Do you know exactly what was done to the car to bring it to 99 GT3 spec?
That's what I was thinking as well as far as pricing goes.
A tremendous amount of work went into the car by one of the better known Porsche racecar builders. From what I am told, the engine and transmission are Euro spec GT3, as is the suspension. Beyond that I am not completely sure. But, I would find out from the car builder before making an offer on the car.
It is going to be a bit heavier than a factory GT3. But, that can be remedied easy enough with removal of everytying that doesn't make the car faster.

Yup, if I were considering it, I would start with a base 996 coupe price. Just like all these guys super-duper-turbo-charing their Turbo's, are going to have a tough time selling theirs for more than a stock Turbo. Sometimes it reduces the value, in fact. The only way to get more $$ on a modified car, is to find a buyer LOOKING for a modified car. There's not a huge market there -- most people like a stock car so they can do what they want with it...
