Does this bother anyone else?
DrPeter, I agree with you. There should be a more visible difference from every angle than the "lesser" Carrera models. With the 997 mk.1 GT3's, there's no doubt about it if one's behind you, unless it's a Carrera with an aero kit lol I think the 997 GT3 mk. 1 had the best looking front fascia of any year or model 911.

Wasn't trying to start a thread about how much cooler the last generations body style was verses the newest fascia. They did some cool things with the new GT3, for instance I like what they did with the wing and the tires and the lift kit.
It was just that I drove by a 2010 997 and had to double check if was a GT3. In the past, there really was not any angle you could look at the Gen 1 997 GT3 and be even slightly confused at what you are looking at. I feel that there should be a marked distinction between the normally aspired 997 and the other models.

GT3 appearance through the years
I find the real distinction of the GT3 is what it does and not how it looks. If I wanted beauty and flash I think the Ferrari is it. If I want something that will amaze me with how it responds to gas, steering and brake inputs PLUS, you could drive it to work, the a/c really works and you don't need to "freshen up" the engine at 40,000 miles. And it will do it day in and day out. That's amazing.
I agree. You buy a GT3 for the engine. Thats it!
As a 997S owner that was not happy with the stock look, I changed the body kit to OEM GT3 because i prefer the lines and the aerodynamic benifits for the track.
I dont claim my car to be a GT3 (personalized plate even jokes about it), because not matter if it looks like a GT3 it WILL NEVER BE A GT3, with is GT1 dry sump motor!
You buy a GT3 for the engine and its benifits above a 997.
If you want it just for the looks, than you are overpaying and driving a car that is meant for much more! And you will be much more comfortable in a 997S on daily driving and bumpy roads.
"If you want a horse for its beauty and to sit in the stable, buy a show horse. If you want to buy a thourough bred race horse, you better let it RUN!"
Its like my friend that has a scuderia and the poor car will never se the track
or and high performance driving (which was what the cars was built for).
But i also belive that you made your money and you can do whatever the hell you want with it, thats why this is such a great place!
sorry for the rant. just my .02 cents

No, it doesn't bother me, but it confuses me.
It doesn't bother me because Porsche can put whatever front facia they want on any of their product, even a Cayenne's face on a Carrera and people will still praise it for it's beauty and performance.
It confuses me because if all the mk2 Carreras/GT3 have 'similiar' front facia, then shouldn't the Cups & RSRs have the same facia also, since the engine is the only important thing?
I would say it's definite beneficial to non mk2 GT3 Carrera owners because they don't have to spend anymore money to get mk2 GT3 aerokit. Better yet, Porsche should put Cups & RSRs aerokit on all Carreras.
One question: will someone want to replace mk2 aerokit with a mk1?
I prefer the look of mk1's aerokit over mk2's. But again, that's just me.
