2004 GT3 Racing Seats
Hi everybody:
I am looking at putting Sparco Evo2 Seats in my GT3. After some research, it looks like I have to replace the base and get some hardware. I have already installed a Sparco harness bar (correction, had someone install it) and I've got a couple of 4 point harness sets.
My question is, has anybody made this modification, and if so, how did it work out?
Thanks in advance.

as a fellow GT3 drover I can't keep it zipped...unless you are only autoxing, with little risk of a rollover, you should be aware of the added risk to you and any potential passengers with the configuration you have mentioned...having racing seats and harnesses in a car without roll protection puts the occupants at serious risk in the event of a rollover because the seat and harness hold you very upright while everything collapses around you..please don't do it...you are safer with the stock seats and belts if you have no roll protection
ps...I meant to add...don't use a harness with stock seats...without eyeholes in the seats the belts will slip off your shoulders in an impact...there also is usually no provision for a sub belt

Aww darn, ruining all my fun.
I knew about the not using the harness with stock seats. Thats why I didn't install them yet.
ok, so I guess i need to look at a roll cage as well. Gosh now it's starting to get expensive. Sigh.
Thanks for the advise, I was thinking I would either get the seats or just get a mandolin, so I'll just go pick up the Mandolin.
I mostly do tracking that doesn't really let me go much faster than 140, but I will take your advice and look at a roll cage.
Or maybe what I should do is get a 2010 model with the roll cage and racing seats.

I've seen lots of rollovers at speeds a lot less than 140...the tequipment bar will give you adequate roll protection for DE but if you want to go wheel to wheel racing you will need a full cage to pass tech...the tequipment roll bars (996-997 GT3) show up often used so check the classifieds as there were a couple for sale in there...hate to spoil your fun but just looking out for your pumpkin bro

Hey don't think I don't appreciate safety advice. Just thinking about a roll over makes my stomach hurt.
well I saved some money.
Thanks for the advice.
I picked up my roll-bar from another member on 6speed so you can definitely find a good deal out there.
As for speeds Chuck is right it's not as much about speed as how the car goes off, what the terrain is, etc. You can be going considerably slower than 140 and go off at an angle hit an elevation or some rough terrain and go airborne. Your chances are a lot lower if you go off straight especially if your speed is lower.
No one wants to have to use the roll-bar, but if it ever comes to that you will be ecstatic that you put it in.
Cars can be replaced, people cant.

Buying a 'used' roll bar or cage is a bad idea, unless you know their history, they could be dangerous. I have also seen used bars/cages taken out of wrecked cars and sold. The material properties of steel (or carbon fiber for that matter) are not like bone, blunt forces weaken their structural integrity.

Well
Well it sounds like my great idea of racing seats and 4 point harness is not so much a great idea.
I still have the harness bar installed, which increases stability (that's my story and I'm sticking to it).
Thanks for the great advice guys.
It's nice to find a forum where there is some activity and active users.

of course you need to exercise normal caution when buying a used bar but if it has never been in an accident, and plenty of them sell on here that have not, it would be fine...you just missed a four point roll bar that doesn't have the cross braces so you can access the rear seat and you need a harness bar like you have already..it sold for $200 plus shipping...when you do find one have it shipped greyhound..cheapest way...
Well thanks for that advice. I think i'm gonna stick with what I have now, which is stock seats and belt.
I'm hoping to head down to Florida next winter, so maybe I'll bring the GT3 and get some work done then.
