Track Wheels

Can I get some suggestions for a good set of wheels to use only at the track. I would not like to spend much money if I can get some decent wheels rather cheap. I need them for my 996 GT3.

not spending a lot of money is subjective. I can suggest great wheels for a bunch of price ranges, what is your limit?

Cheap is relative, but you'll get your dollars worth at CCW (http://www.ccwheel.com).

Great track wheels.

I am just wondering if there are good wheels that are less than the typical price range of BBS and HRE even though I am aware that those two are great brands.

Contact CCW directly and you should be able to pick something up for half the price of BBS or HRE.

I have been looking at CCW online and that is the price range I was looking for. I appreciate the suggestion. I would just rather spend my money on other things for the car than some super expensive "track" wheels. Thank you.

I now a lot of people that is very happy with ccw's they are strong, ligth weigth and decent looking. I just received a set of O.Z. alleggerita's (8.5-12' X 18) they are even ligther and also good looking (i didn't had the chance to check or install them since for the moment i'm out traveling abroad), i'll intend to try them this weekend at Sebring, will post some pictures and results.

Track Wheels = CCW which are forged
O.Z. alleggerita = Cast wheels which are not optimal for the abuse from a race track.

O.Z. sells the alleggerita as track wheels, they say they are manufactured using a new and special cast process. O.Z. has technology and a long tradition manufacturing race wheels. Price is very competitive $ 1778.00 for the set, almost the same as a set of tires!!

Read about Low Pressure casting vs Forged.

Not that there is anything wrong with cast wheels. Just for the track I want the strongest.

I totally agree with you that Forged Wheels will be stronger than Cast Wheels, but this cast from OZ has some technology improvements over traditional low pressure casting, I hope it is not marketing BS, for the cost of the wheels (almost half the cost than lowest forged competitors) seems to me it is worth to try them. Below find what OZ says about their HLT wheels:

"HLT: otherwise called coating. This technique uses rollers to move the material along the channel of a low-pressure cast aluminium wheel so as to lengthen it and give it the desired shape. This technology makes the material coated on the channel very compact, enhancing its mechanical characteristics.
The HLT wheels are produced with HLT technology that improves performance, reduces consumptions and guarantees the necessary resistance to pass the strictest safety tests. The innovation and the excellence of the HLT production processes (high light technology) are the result of the company’s direct experience in F1 racing, which earned OZ unparalleled knowledge in this field.
The sensitive channel coating process and the new HLT technologies make it possible to obtain mechanical characteristics that are similar to those of a moulded wheel, increasing drastically resistance, with a consequent reduction of the weight of the wheel."
