997.1 GT3RS or 997.2 GT3

I'm thinking about a 997.1 GT3RS or 997.2 GT3? Any opinon on which is better. Also are there any hidden changes other than what is posted by porsche for the RS models. Do they use stronger material for tranny and etc?

OR if any 997.2 GT3RS allocations at MSRP please feel free to let me know.

Do a search, here, Rennlist, and Teamspeed. All of them have atleast 2-3 threads asking the same question.

Z356, thank you for your reply. You pretty much sum most of the questions. The wider body look is pushing me towards the RS.

ZTnedman1, I'll check out the other fourms thanks.

Yes, the new 997.2 RS has the same wider rear end like the 997.1 RS. The 997.2 gt3 does not.

There are ways in the course of of proper & comprehensive PPI to see if the car has been abused by the previous owners. Service records must be examined carefully for signs of recurring problems. Computer print-outs of Stage I & Stage II over revs can be detected and investigated to determine patterns of use or mis-use. Carfax may alert to issues and accidents. Sophisticated paint meters might detect areas missing original factory paint. Removing wheel well plastic panels to inspect the metal underside often reveals repaired body work. Wear patterns on interior leather / alcantara seats, carpet, etc. give you an indication of how carefully the previous owner took care of his vehicle. By now, most of us have had some experience in buying a used car, especially a sport vehicle like a Porsche. If no one ever bought a used Porsche, our market would come to a grinding halt since the cost of ownership would skyrocket beyond the ability of most of us to afford these very expensive vehicles. Cost of ownership is depreciation, maintenance & financing (whether borrowed or self funded). And we can carefully managed these costs by selling early or buying use. I think right now buying a used RS makes financial sense. However, if I was buying a regular 911, it is nearly impossible to beat the deals on leftover '09 models due to PCNA trunk money and invoice pricing by most dealers. z356

And I cant even answer this question, tough decision to make. I think Id go with the brand new GT3 though, only because you never know how the owner treated the RS. If you plan to keep this car a while, go with a new one

All GT3's are built on the wider C4 chassis, although, only the RS's have the wider fenders; both .1's and .2's, like he ^ said.

The new RS comes so well equipped that you would be hard pressed to get the MSRP to $160 let alone $170k. For less than $150K you could have a very, very well optioned .2 RS: PCCBs, full leather, etc... Gas guzzler and dest. included.

I just love cars but even more so when that car is a Porsche. So you can contact me and i will give you the dealers name and some other people i can put you in contact with. Hope this helps and sorry to everybody else i can't P.M. yet so this is what i have to do to until that magical number comes. And Z356 I would have to agree with the 997.1RS over the 997.2GT3, Great choice.

Speaking as someone who bought an '07 RS three weeks ago I can say that you are absolutely correct. The 2010 GT3 hitting the street, the release of the 997.2 RS's specs, and the general economy have made buying a first generation RS a very tempting choice.

The past 12 months have been unkind to used Porsche values, and the RS in particular. The very fact that it's a tough decision to make between a 997.1 RS and 997.2 GT3 means that RS pricing is invariably going to be capped somewhere around the buy-in level of a 2010 GT3.
