GT3 vs. C2S
My last 3 cars have been 996 GT3, 997C2S, and now I am back in a GT3. I sold my last GT3 thinking I would be more "practical" with the C2S as primarily a street car with some track since I also have a race car. The C2S was a nice car but didn't really do it for me. Now I'm back in a GT3 and it is night and day difference, even on the street. I can't wait to get it on the track next weekend. This one will get to the track a lot more than the C2S.
After nine 911 variants over the past few decades including a '68 S, an SC, a Turbo, a Carrera, Carrera S, a Carrera 4, a Carrera 4S, etc. - they have all been terrific automobiles. I just purchased a 2007 GT3 in June with 2,000 miles on it (and now have fully broken it in!) and it has a personality all its own. It is by far the most sensory-filling car to drive, the most responsive, the quickest (even over a Turbo) and has been the most entertaining to own. It just has an incredibly special feel. I drive it daily, and will only rarely get it on the track for Club events or autocrosses, but it's like a carnival ride every time I twist the key. Definitely go with the GT3!
Just last week I traded in my C2S Cab on a 2007 GT3 and couldn't be happier!
Fantastic car!! In just one week I've put 750 hwy and city miles on the car and it's very very much a daily driver.... but a VERY special daily driver!!

like azzuri, i have owned most models of p cars, 911t, 911s, 911sc, 996 c2, 996 turbo, 997 turbo and now a 2010 gt3. without doubt, the gt3 is the most thrilling to drive, feel, hear and look at. don't fall for the "not a daily driver" bull...it is just fine, in fact it is fantastic.
good luck, and stay with the gt3 order. you won't be dissapointed, trust me.

If we disregard the powertrain entirely can a c2s handle like a gt3?
is the steering rack the same for the two cars? does the gt3 have further chassis reinforcement? i noticed the integral chassis motor mount was different compared to a gt3
simply put i am not in a position to get into a gt3, i feel the c2s is a fantastic platform.. i come from a 996 turbo and this car handles much better out of the box. my car currently has a stock alignment and is at stock ride height.. i am pretty excited to see what she can do with some tweeks!
by this i mean by adding the following mods - items in red i already have but not all installed
lightweight wheels
rss motor mount
dog bones
toe links
200 Cell cats
AWE Headers
PSE
Spherical Sway Bar Links
GT3 Brake Ducts - Racing Fluid
6 piston brakes - Don't feel i really need these just good pads
bilstein or jrz coilovers
gmg sway bars
weight reduction
adjustable control arms
Gt3 Bodykit

I have a .2 Carrera and a .1 gt3rs sitting in my garage right now. These 2 cars could not drive and feel more different. First the engine is another beast entirely, the transmission is totally different, the suspension is a full race ready adjustable setup, steering is different etc.
Carrera feels like a nice gt/sports car. Gt3 feels like a race car.
You have to drive them to see. I'm not sure any amount of $ can change this. You might as well get a gt3.

I will echo what most people have said
It is night and day. When I first got into the GT3 and drove it, the only thing that went through my mind is "this is what a Porsche should feel like".
It made me feel like I was 6years old taking my first bicycle ride around the neighborhood.
The last of the real GT3s (especially with that flappy paddle ding dong 991), a collector car for sure.
Drive both, you'll easily make up your mind.
10k$ is not an incentive to downgrade that much IMO.
I always thought I'd never sell my 4S being that it was my first Porsche. 15mins in the GT3 made me never want to touch the 4S ever again.
My friend switched to a Turbo from a GT3. He is miserable and depressed and wants me to ride with him so that he can hear the beautiful sound it makes at 4,000RPM.
I wake up on Saturdays just to find roads to rip it to 4k RPM and higher. Just to hear it, not for the speed, not for anything. just that sweet, magical sound.

It would be great to drive a C2S that has suspension mods and then take a gt3 for a spin.. i dont want to invest too much if i am going to be really disapointed. would rather enjoy the car for what it is!
i am going to go down the road of modding the c2s ... i just added up some figures and yes its expensive to mod but its still costing me around $7000 minus the brakes to have a decked out c2s.. this includes all the parts i listed in my previous post.. note that i am buying some parts used not paying up the *** otherwise this build would be double my anticipated 7k
would love the functioning gt3 bodykit but then we are getting high on cost! front bumper along is $2000 in primer!

I went down the road and did the C2S, I have the Bilstein Damptronic CO's they were a great set up for both street and track. You won't need to upgrade the brakes, use more aggressive pads and stickier tires, the stock 4 piston brakes on the C2S are awesome. Try a LWFW and a proper LSD, the open differential is one thing that limits the C2S on the track.
you guys realize this thread is over 3 years old. I bought the .2 gt3 three years ago. As most have said, there is no comparison between any c2S and a GT car; different galaxies. Once you go gt you don't go back, hehe.

i am really looking forward to lowering the car and getting gt3 geometry.. hoping this can be achieved with dog bones as i don't really want to pay for adjustable control arms!
next quick mod will probably have to be a gt3 shifter though! the throws are a little long right now
i have to say what a fantastic car for half the cost of a gt3! lets not forget that out of the equation!
