I think it's safe to say corvette definitely has the power advantage but it does not make it right to destroy other racers' day by forcing the issue on turn 2 early in the race and throwing it's weight around the rest of the afternoon like it owns the track - even the P1 cars don't behave that way. Through the whole race, I lost count how many times these vette guys force their issue like a playground bully. They were very nice to turn on the high beam all the time while trying to pass Bergmeister. Yes, I was glad Joerg Bergmeister put No 3 to it's right full place after that last stunt. Joerg was noticeable shaken up (more like **** off) about the whole thing on the after race interview

I completely agree with you.

I really wish I could have made it to the race in person though

I watched the whole race, at least what was shown on TV. IMO, Porsche has little to brag about here. It's the thing that often happens when a power advantage exists within class. It would have been interesting, had the racing been totally clean until the last lap. Porsche would had to have won dirty, or lost clean, who's to know?

Wasn't that Joerg who got taken out by the Panoz at Sebring too? I'm sure he's had just about enough of that and I don't blame him.

What was Jan thinking to pass in the pit lane, that in and of itself should have been a DQ, reckless driving. And they have to cover that in the drivers meeting. The LMP race was an example of how the GT2 race should have ended, the 2nd place car was a little faster at the end but raced clean and lost like a man.

Who remembers the Corvette's banging on each other in pit lane last year, they are notorious bash and bangers, they need to be dealt with, hopefully they learn from this that everyone isn't going to put up with that crap.

We were pitted in between Flying Lizard and Corvette during the ALMS race.

We were punted by the Corvette during the race.. Frustrating after starting last in the GTC class and going passing all the cars in our class. Then leading by a lap and half and getting hit on a restart into turn 1.
Then loosing over an hour in the pits repairing the car.

You never want to see anyone crash a car or see a driver get hurt, but Jan (Corvette) was driving very aggressively during the race... Jorg ( Porsche) did an excellent job during the race and drove very clean.

Had the corvette not used several other cars as brakes including our GT3 and played bumper cars thourghout the race perhaps the outcome of the crash might have been different.

Congrats to Jorg for a well driven race and congrats to Flying Lizard for winning the race as well as the manufactures Championship for Porsche. Well deserved.!!!

Saturday was a different race..........

James was able to take the lead after the the caution from the first lap where team mate Dino Crescentini GMG/StopTech Porsche was taken out by Boris Said.

James was able to run away with the race.........

Posting the overall win.
Fastest Lap of the Race and move of the Race.
And winning the manufactures Championship for Porsche.

Thanks for all the support throughout the year guys! It was a pleasure to meet many of you at the tracks throughout the country.

We look forward to 2010 and another succesful year.

I didn't watch the ALMS Laguna, what happened to the M3 GTR's engine? Looked pretty bad from the video.

There was nothing for Jorg to brag about and it was a hard fought win especially when the Corvette team decided they are going to eliminate him one way or the other. Jorg got hit going into the last turn by the dive bomb vette which unsettle the car and make it very hard to accelerate up the straight to the finish line. That was the only way corvette could pass him. If you ever drag race then you know even a 1/10 second hesitation could lose the race. Jorg was going to out run the vette up the straight if he did not have to save the car after getting bumped. He had guts to protect his position and teach the corvette team a well deserved lesson!

Yeah, Jorg was not going to make the same mistake twice

I felt really bad for you guys when that bone head corvette No 3 charge into James' GT3 at turn 2. What in the world was he thinking (or not thinking). He went on driving after that incident and his hood flew off almost wiping out couple cars behind him - OMG, these guys need to be kicked off the ALMS IMHO.

I saw James' car after the repair and good for him to get back on the track despite lack of rear bumper. He was a monster on the Sunday SCCA GT challenge. He was so far ahead of the field and never look back. Too bad Dino spun out on the first lap. Congrats on the win and can't wait to see your guys back on the track next season

I think the M3 blew either a cylinder or head gasket. It was funny that the announcer said we don't need to worry about using a mosquito repellent anymore

I can read between the lines

JM was driving like a ***** -- last race of the season and they were not in contention for the series championship -- why not get a bit more exposure and win the last race at any cost... what did he have to lose?

Congrats to Flying Lizard, JB, and Pat Long!

Agreed, but they also cost the #92 BMW a shot at the podium with that bonehead supposed "mistake" earlier in the race.

They've been driving overly aggressive since Mid-Ohio, it's their patented dive-bomb followed by the push off the track. Ask Ferrari, they know about it along with everyone else. They don't give room and actually race to the next corner, they just put a fender or bumper on you, or literally cut the corner off everytime. It's GM's NASCAR mentality. I hope ALMS and IMSA has the ballz to let GM and Corvette know this isn't Grand Am Rolex racing or NASCAR. Just because GM is willing to destroy their race cars every race in order to win doesn't give them the right to lay fenders on everybody else's 500K+ race cars. They probably have the most potent cars in the field, so relying on constantly overly aggressive or downright dirty moves makes them pretty pathetic IMO.

Trust me, there was a whole paddock full of racers and teams secretely saying "thanks Jorg".

The #4 started the chain reaction that wrecked Sofronas. Not the #3.

The #3 however did do some bumping to Long at Road America to take last podium, and bumped the hell out a Kaffer (#62 Ferrari) at mosport to take the win.

Jorg was not the one that was wrecked at Sebring this year, He was the one that was almost punted and then ran into the wall Sebring 2007.

I say both teams are guilty of dirty racing... however, Jan started w/ the attempted punt on the final corner. After that, Jorg knew he had no chance to out gun him on the straight (as well as not being happy w/ the cheap shot) if he kept the racing line, so he pinned Jan against the wall. Jan really should have given up but I guess that's racing.

forums.corvetteforum.com/autocrossing-and-roadracing/2445195-dirty-bergmeister.html

Interesting thread from a Corvette POV. Even Lou G (of the LG Corvette) has his own comments.

I like both cars and both teams so I will avoid the "stupid Corvette!" or "stupid Porsche!" comments; there's enough of that childish BS on BMW forums.

Regardless, it was exciting racing... something I barely see in F1, the supposed grand-daddy of motorsports. it got many people's panties twisted up in a knot.

Edit: I believe Corvette was allowed to use a destroked LS7 (corvetteracing.com) this year; they are using a 5.5 next year. It didn't help that all 911 RSRs have been given a 25kg weight penalty due to the steel sleeves in their engines.
