Although the slight loss of hp from the use of an alternate seal is not a big deal, what of the potential for the case to draw outside air and dust through the 996 seal under vacuum during engine operation, especially from the clutch area, now that the lip orientation is reversed? If we acknowledge that the vacuum function is lost with the 996 seal, then we acknowledge that air is drawing through this seal under engine operation.
Exactly, which is why Porsche aren't just using the 996 seal. They aren't so dumb that if that was a good solution they'd just ignore it.

Didn't the 996 cup have a different crank case breather to have lower crank pressure. If so what seal does the cup use? (I bet it leaks too lol)

My GT3 just started to leak recently for the first time. It is 3 years old with 10k miles, mostly track. My dealer said Porsche has had TSB out for the past few months about checking vacuum in the crankcase. Mine didn't have any, due to one of the vacuum operated exhaust valves being damaged. They replaced it with a new one. The crankcase vacuum is now back to normal and RMS no longer leaking, (and was not replaced). I will keep you posted if it starts to leak again.

Interesting.....I have my valves unplugged and car does not leak

I could see if one of the lines was leaking the car would lose vacuum

just back from dealer

I just got the RMS replaced at the dealership ($3.2K billed to Porsche under warranty...., tranny drop, 5w50 oil replaced, seal, labor, etc..., ) and I'm a little concerned about the posts regarding the continued problem for these engines. Question: If the leak starts again do I disreguard it and clean the floor up or go in for another run through the dealer? My warranty is up in late december...? Thx in advance.

MIne was finally fixed after 3 engine outs. Don't know what they did but it has not leaked in 2 years. Maybe super glue

My 2010 GT3RS 3.8 leaks too. I bought it used with 2100Km on it in Dec-2011, PPI mentioned it has small drop of clean oil at the bottom. No big deal.

But after one and half month, I have some oil leak as the picture show.

Drove it to dealer, they need to take picture and send the pictures to Germany for approval . And may take up to a month for all the process .

Can't believe 2010 car will leak ?
