My GT3 RS RMS was replaced again!

I hope and pray that this time the dealer has it fixed for good. I hate it when the RS marks its parking spot!

I have had the leak for some time, albeit small... its because of all this inability to fix that I really have decided not to bother looking at it until the clutch needs changing or the leak actually gets much worse....

Is there really a way to permanently fix it on our cars????

Drive them.

I did some work on my car last winter and brought it home during a period when we had a lot of snow, so the car sat. About a month after I brought it home, there was a leak. The RMS was replaced again, and a month later it was leaking, a little this time. I left it alone, and haven't seen the leak since. Porsche has a minimum milage requirement per year to maintain the warranty, these cars need to be and want to be driven!

This is the same engine that the 2010 GT3 has. Right?

Mate, this as I understand it is the key way. Keeping the pressure up and the engine used is the best way to keep the oil from leaking out of the wrongly designed seal.

Will give Sharkey a buzz too.... but must say I am in no rush to get this fixed...

I've also had two of the newer 997 seals installed and fail. The kicker is PCNA wouldn't even cover the entire repair on the second seal because I was two months out of warranty and had a RS clutch/flywheel and aftermarket mufflers. I already purchased the older 996TT seal (999.113.426.41), however I can't get passed having to pay $1K out of pocket for the labor. I know that this issue has been discussed to death, but I would like to hear if any other owners have been successful at having PCNA cover the costs to install the 996TT seal.

jimxyz is infamous around these parts
This topic makes me look under my car obsessively - what exactly am I looking for anyway? My 71 911 used to leak oil pretty regular no matter what we did to it. It ran great, just dropped oil here and there. If I have an RMS leak, it is just a small spot on the floor or ?

3X for me - I was told that I wasn't driving the RS enough last time it was in.

Have to agree...these cars need t be driven hard and often. I have been off work the last two weeks and put 1200 miles on my RS. The car is beyond impressive and just keeps on asking for more.

It may be the best overall car I have ever owned!!!!

Disagree on the "drive it more" theory.
If I drive mine, it leaks...small drop every 5-10 days
If I dont drive it (40+ days now without driving, out of town on business) it will not leak

As noted, it is really insignificant. All of my early 911's (72 "S", 87 Carrera, and especially my 94 RSA) leaked much more than this. Still by far the best car I've ever owned.

Thats unusual Bill.... most mechs I have spoken to have said the seal works when being driven due to its inherent design... BUT when left stagnant does not seal properly and the oil starts to collect and drip in small quantities.

Either way, not enough of a leak to concern me as of the present.... and yup, I pretty much like the reasoning.... forces me to take the RS out all the more often
