excellence gt2 vs zr1
excellence gt2 vs zr1
just read the feb issue of excellence which compares the two on track at infineon raceway driven by johannes van overbeek. gt2 1:49.2 and vette 1:48.8. states run flats on vette and r compound on porsche probably reason was so close.
of course the $194k gt2 had the better interior than the $108k chevrolet though.

wear rating for mpsc is still less than 1/2 the run flat so maybe twice as sticky. and dont forget about unsprung weight deltas

I read the article. Took some guts to print in a Porsche only magazine. I can only read into the reason for doing this at all was to goad Porsche into an engineering response. However, even knowing the Vett is faster I still have no desire for one. I just picked up my dream car a lightly used 2007 GT3. My previous fast cars have been a 1976 Camaro purpose built road racer, an E46 M3 left stock and an insanely modified 2007 Wrx Sti with 460whp, suspension, brakes etc.. However I simple enjoy the looks, driving feel and sensory experience of the GT3. The other cars simply cannot compare to this overall experience. I could have purchased a new Z06, GT-R, or Viper ACR and I know I would likely track those cars quicker. But I simple did not want one. Porsche still holds the cachet for me.
track performance aside, the zr1 just isnt very exciting when compared to the 100k and above club. it looks just like the tired old C6Z, and now you can have the looks in the 45k grand sport C6.
there is alot more to a car and you can bet the zr1 guy is envious looking at the GT2 in his rear view mirror

Wear rating means next to nothing. The Porsche spec MPSC are not at all that great. I'd say the tires are very similar, maybe even giving an edge to the PS2's on the ZR-1.

The article was enjoyable to read. It was interesting to see where on the track the GT2 was faster.
Like others have said about the corvette it is no Porsche. I bought corvette's until I could afford the Porsche. Don't miss the corvette one bit!

Could not wait so I built my own 7GT2 RS, 600HP, Bilstein Race DA shocks sorted suspension, using the Traqmate pulls 1.65 g's on the stock MPSC, in saying this it's curious to see how accurate the Traqmate is?
Can't wait to come across a ZR1 at the track.
lap times were very close considering how much more power the ZR1 has, there are a few trade offs between these two cars, ZR1 has a very soft suspension, not exactly a drivers cars at the track.

It took a lot of guts to write and print and FYI they were also VERY complimentary of the gt2 originally in the cover story from 2008. The owner of the vette also has owned a lot of Porsches (including cup cars). I'm no vette guy but the zr1 is very fast indeed. As great as the gt2 is it's still not as much fun to drive as the 3.
wonder how the zr1 would compare to a similarly priced c2s? if someone is willing to go from spending $100k on vette to 200k in order to have a porsche, then it makes much more sense to me to spend 300k for a scuderia. i think you get more 'value' in that upgrade.
Maybe there would be some envy on the street but I don't think anyone would ever envy a car disappearing in their rear view mirror on the track. You would just be too busy smiling! And I love GT2's!!
