08 GT3 RS vs 10 GT3
08 GT3 RS vs 10 GT3
New to the forum. Looking for some suggestions on 08 RS vs 10 GT3. I've narrowed my search down to two cars both with miles under 1K and same equipment except that the 10 has the sport buckets vs standard seats in the RS. I know I can't go wrong with either. The question being is there any thing to the long term value of going with the RS and it's lower production numbers?
Thank you.

The main thing is:
If you are going to put a decent amount of miles and/ or track the car, I would take the 997.2 GT3 in a second. The facelift GT3 (2010-11) comes with traction and stability control while the 997.1 GT3 and 997.1 RS only have traction control.
If you are going to put low miles and pretty much have the car as a weekend car, aka toy, I would pick the 997.1 RS. The RS is a lot rarer than any GT3, plus the RS is a lot better "Garage Queen".
Bottom-line is do not buy the RS if you plan on putting miles...

I love the 997.2 GT3 for its enhanced performance and handling... it is slightly faster and better handling than the RS.
BUT the RS, contrary to what anybody else says... is to me a far more desirable car.... I have mine and would never trade it on a 997.2 GT3.
And I am putting serious miles on mine.... it is far from a garage queen and spends 80% of its driving time on the track, but I will never sell it, it is such a special car to me.... and will always be just that bit more special than a GT3. Whether it is actually a better car though.... no. But more special... yes.
Value wise, still too many produced to make it a good investment... it will depreciate like any car... but may be just that bit slower than a standard GT3.

Thank you Alex and Harold for the insight. I am basically down to giving up the refinements and slight performance increase of the 10 gt3 for my love of the rawness of the RS.

it's actually very simple.
if you want a future classic, 997.1RS
if you want the better handing car 997.2GT3
if you want both 997.2RS.

It's a tough one but having gotten both I'll try my best here.... The 3.8 does have a bit more torque/power here and there. Not especially noticeable but it's there. The suspension changes are subtle too... some might prefer it as it requires less correction/input. It feels a little more "settled" I suppose? Hence it might well be the quicker car... But the gen1 is so raw and perfect for me that I'll never part with it. Plus in green or orange, what can you say?
! The lwf and 3.6 pistons allow the motor to rev more freely as well.

3.9 out handle the 010?
Can't think of anyone more capable of a little tweaking.
The RS in stock form is more than enough car for my ability at this time. It has been 5 yrs since my last track day, (2 young boys), and going from 285HP in the 97 C4S to 415hp, it will take some work to fill those shoes.
RS = Really Special
guaranteed to not depreciate as fast
in no time the 2010 gt3 will be less expensive than the rs IMHO
look at what is happening with all "base" gt3 right now
996 - tanked in the last year
997.1 - easily had in the 70s
997.2 - over optioned pigs stuck on dealer lots, and very low mile examples already on the market and suffering
I am sure this is a product of our economic times but that is today's reality.
I located a 63 mile 2007 rs and the owner did not know how to price it... and was advised to sell it at 10k off sticker.... for a 3 year old car...
the rs variants will hold up better but the will all go down
if you are buying today - then rs
if you are buying in a year or two - the 2010 will be a bargain
(unless dj goes north of 14000 - that's a laugh though)

I don't see the 2010s priced below the .1 RS anytime soon; if ever. Imo, whomever told the 63 mile RS owner to sell their car for $10k off sticker is fooling themselves or at least the seller/buyer. I certainly wouldn't pay that for a 3 year old RS. $25k off maybe and only after knowing the options.
Given our horrific economic situation, GT3s, too include 996s, have held up fairly well. Consider .1s going for roughly 30-35% off MSRP four years later and after the introduction of the .2s is actually good. The average .1 sold for $112-$115k (without excessive options, however the right ones.)
For the most part .1s with MSRPs above $115k would not gain any residual value. The same can be said for .2s priced above $125K.
There may be 40-50 cars on dealers' lots but with spring around the corner and production cut to <500, they won't last that long, imo. Certainly the $140k+ cars will take longer.
