finally got to drive a 997.2 GT3
finally got to drive a 997.2 GT3
no new, nor in any way earth-shattering news here. just corroborates what others have already said.
main differences i noticed vs my (standard 997.1 car):
Better ride
this was the biggest difference. car rides better over bumps, and seems to "round" out the small road imperfections better than the older car. its almost as if they introduced a few % more "comfort" or "luxury" feel into the car, but without sacrificing performance.
part of this may be because the car i drove has the folding sport seats introduced on the GT2, whereas my car has the fixed shells from the CGT/euro GT3. however, the owner of the car also had a mk1 GT3 with comfort seats, and says the improvement is real.
More power
yes this is stating the obvious, but as others have also said, its not a night and day difference, but you do notice it. more torque down low, so you don't have to drop down a gear as much as in the older car
as far as exhaust note goes, that difference is quite tiny really IMO. yes newer car is louder, but from the driver's seat, i'd be hard pressed to identify that i was in the newer car if i were blindfolded, just from the sound alone. from the outside, the new car does seem louder and "angrier"
i know, i didn't really say anything new, but for anyone with the older car and the means to get into the newer one w/o thinking of the cost, its a no brainer. i can't see any reason why overall, one would prefer the mk1 to the mk2, (stock to stock)... as long as price was not an object.

Why does the new one ride nicer. Did porsche get rid of the stock coilovers?
Nevermind, just did a search and i'm guessing the larger springs on the 997.2's is what made the ride better? First time i've seen large spring coilovers
