A car fax only shows, what has been reported to the DMV. If someonce crashed a car, had no police report written, and fixed it without involving insurance, nothing would show on the car fax. Perhaps that's what happened with the CGT at Park Place? I agree that car fax isn't 100% reliable but it did prevent me from pursuing a bad car a few times.

Sometimes a car is fixed so right that it's as good or better than out of the box. It all boils down to a p.p.i to find out how good the car is and how the price reflects loss of value due to accident. However, for an expensive car like the CGT, Id prefer a pristine, cherry, virgin e.g.

CARFAX has lots of other info. http://www.carfax.com/about/data_sources.cfx But you're right, it's not complete (as they admit).

Sometimes it is also in error. Last year I got rid of my Toyota truck and I had to convince the dealer that the CARFAX report of an accident was wrong.

Are you sure you're talking about the same car? This CGT was originated from New Jersey. They did however have a similar one with history listed a year ago.

Carfax is not very accurate, and autocheck can be more accurate but anyone can run their Carrera GT into a tree. Tow it to their house and have it repaired and never have anything show on car fax or autocheck.

Correct. Always best to have a ppi, and if a car checks out with a ppi and has a bad carfax or autocheck this could be beneficial to the buyer, save $$. All i can say is i will never buy a car based on what those reports say. The integrity of the car will speak for itself. That's what works for me.

Yup, I got the same story. The car had about $100K worth of repairs. It looks great now but has a blemish on it's record and that will hurt the value.

Manhattan Motorcars has 4 "05 cgt's, all with comparable mileage. Two of them are priced in the $430K range and the other two in the $370 range. That's a ~$60K difference.

Again, does someone know the history of these four cars?

TIA, Peter Oh

Wow, the recession must not have affected sales at Manhattan Motorcars. They're so busy they don't have time to explain the price difference between their four CGT's. Let's see if I have better luck with an e mail response.

Color is a factor in pricing as well. GT Silver is by far the most common color and you can pay a premium for some of the more rare colors. BTW, I only see 2 on Manhattan's website. Both GT Silver.

I'm looking at their ads on Dupont Registry. They have 4 listed but I know sometimes dealers keep ads up even after car is sold since the ad is run until sold.

The d bag I spoke to at Manhattan couldn't even be bothered to tell me how many cars they indeed have. The only e mail reply I've gotten is an automated promise to get back to me.
