Carbon Fiber Interior

I am having a Turbo S built with just about all the CF that Porsche offers. I really like the look. Since I went Ice Blue I am looking at a Nov build.

I have been getting tons of advice to skip the CF seem most folks say it's very poor in Quaility that it will fade, peel and turn yellow. This car will be my toy I plan on keeping a long time. I was told in the 997 section to get advice fro GT guys and your exp with the CF. So that's why I am here is everyones exp bad or are there any good stories to tell. The car will be kept in a garage will only see sun while driving. The car will be a Cab so will be subject to more sunlight than a coupe.

Your input is appreciated trying to decide if I should stay CF or go back to leather Is there any type of protectant that helps save CF. Would rather stay CF but don't need a car falling apart in four years.

NJR911 is infamous around these parts
My 07tt has the carbon interior parts. I do not have the strip up on the dash ( which I have seen on two cars peel up ). I also bought the headlight switch and key switch surround and two little pieces on the front of the door panels which I think made the interior look better. These parts have held up well and I would option them in my next porsche!

Don't get any of it.....you will regret it in the long run

If I was building a Turbo I would cover it in natural leather

Board sponsor MACarbon (http://www.macarbon.com) specializes in Carbon Fiber interior parts, and their specialized manufacturing process makes their parts hold up much better than OEM over time. I have been a happy customer of theirs over multiple vehicles. In comparison to the OEM parts, their products seem much more resistant to haze, yellowing, and most importantly, cracking.

They also offer more pieces in CF than the tequipment/exclusive catalog offers as well.
Even if you do decide to stay with a few OEM CF pieces, their CF pattern matches OEM products perfectly, so mixing and matching is also an alternative.

I have plans to get some items from them to add that the dealer has agreed to install. I have used 303 Protectant on other items. Was hoping this would help as others have said.

The car will be garaged rarely left out side other than when driving and say parked as a restaurant or maybe a hotel on a weekend trip.

The CF is fine so long as you know its a cosmetic overlay with no weight savings at all. The only piece that I would really suggest avoiding would be the strip that runs along the top of the dash just under the windshield. That strip never seems to hold up well regardless of sun exposure (or lack thereof). I would also avoid the CF steering wheel for the same reason. YMMV

What if any warranty is included on your CF parts.
Do you suggest any type of protectant.
I know you deal with CF do you replace many OEM parts that have failed.
From looking at your prices you are less expensive than other brands and OEM. I am not skilled enough IMO to install a lot of these parts. I am in Memphis. Who would in tall things like this other than dealer? My normal dealings with dealers are they would eat up any savings with high labor rates.

We offer 2 years warranty with our parts on finish. We have some exterior and interior parts used for 4 years now and still not sign of color fade or haze. We help couple members to replace their damage or color fade OEM CF trims. All of them are 996 interior trims, dash side air vents and defroster trims are command problem. So far we don't see any OEM 997 int. trims fail. We set our price much lower than OEM CF trims and try to get the reality cost of how much they should be before the "Porsche tax" But the quality is par if not better than OEM CF trims. Regarding with install, if you don't want to rip by stealer, any high-end audio shops are able to do it. PM me for parts you interest and I can give you some quota!

I have a '01 Turbo with a lot of carbon fiber interior pieces. Besides the top portion of the steering wheel which has a crack and some hazing/yellowing from exposure to direct sunlight, the rest of the pieces have all held up amazingly well over the years. I think the key to making sure these CF interior pieces stay in good condition is to avoid exposure to direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time and to keep the interior temp. cool. Also, since they are clear coated, they should be cleaned and waxed regularly just like exterior paint.

The is so many variables when it comes to carbon fiber anything. There is many processes and resins that can be used. It really depends, but because of most peoples lack of years of knowledge needed to ask the right questions. People just get what they see.

First off. All resins used if you buy a CF anything part made in the "wet lay-up" process must be used with a UV resistant resin. Theres only a few out there that are true UV "resistant". There is nothing out yet that is 100% anti yellowing UV proof. If your part is made any where near china I can almost guaranty its $hit and made with cheap resin non UV resistant resin.

A lot of people will say get a "pre-preg" processed part but super super $$$ and good luck finding a UV resistant pre impregnated resin in a pre-preg cloth set up. Most resins used in pre-preg aren't meant to be pretty and in direct sunlight, there only meant for structural purposes and UV is never considered in its design. If you have heard of the carrera GT's yellowing and not even parts in the sun light its because the resin naturally takes that color over time. Its not a UV resistant resin and to be honest its very very very hard for a UV resistant resin to stay perfectly clear after being subjected to years of heat and sun light. Unfortunately the technology isn't here yet.

So if you plan on flaunting the CF, like with a hood, or deck lid, spoiler, etc, then dont get a pre-preg get a wet lay up used with UV resistant resin. In the inside of the car I would do the same. You dont need an $$ pre preg for freakin interior trim thats way over kill. Pre-preg is all function and no form.
Questions to ask when making a purchase.
*Where is it produced?
*Is it made with UV resistant resin? If you think they might be blowin smoke up your a$$ then through them off and ask
*What kind of resin is it? even you dont know what to look for if they hesitate then thats a pretty sure fire way to know they're full of $hit.

PM me if you want to know more about anything that has to do with CF.

BTY if your freakin interior trim is yellowing after time. That means you got totally ripped off and need to make it very clear where you got that part from so other people steer clear.

On the topic of yellowing CF, what does Porsche supply in terms of uv protection for the rear RS wing?
