Got my 100k back: GT2RS out GT3RS in

Well, as some of you fellow Sixspeeders may know a few weeks back I gave my local dealer a 100k deposit check in hopes of getting a 2011 GT2RS. I knew it was a lottery ticket long shot and had little or no chance of getting it for MSRP. I figured WTF, life is short and you only live once right?

My dealer making calls and emails to PCNA about getting a GT2RS for a good Porsche customer ( i have had 4 and counting) with no luck. I also make calls and emails to PCNA as well as other U.S. Dealers, no luck. So much for throwing money at the problem.

With the GT2RS pipe dream dead I moved on to something I had a better chance of getting, a 2011 GT2RS. I gave my local dealer first crack at it but no luck. My local dealer had no allocation and PCNA would not give any up. Plan "B", thanks to Chuck (cc08gt2) on Six Speed he got me in touch with his guy at Park Place Porsche in Dallas, success !! They had open allocation with a September date. Hell that works out great anyway, September 12 is my birthday. Plus if I use Federal Government math, I just saved like 100 Grand.

So longer story shortened, it's nothing special. It's a track car, all business. White, red trim ( will paint black), sticker delete, silver wheels (going to power coat my self), sport carbon seats, white face gauges, thicker steering wheel, minimum radio (radio delete is no longer available because of standard Bluetooth per PCNA), no GPS, no Sport Chrono, no bling, just business. I am looking forward to building this car up more hard core than my 2010 GT3. BTW my GT3 is for sale, 7100 miles and many GMG upgrades. PM for more info

Keep ya posted,

-Troy

Yep, I'll be specing out a new 28ft. ATC bumper pull soon and be ready to roll when that baby comes in.

Troy- Sorry to hear it did not work out. Curious, did you try to get a 2RS from another dealer? Did you call every one around you for say 1000 miles? Color me naive, but surely a 2RS can be locked up at MSRP somewhere? I would be shocked to discover no allocations are still available?

In any event, the 3RS is certainly a very fine car and you will love it!

I called Houston, Dallas, Mississippi, Florida. After the first few I gave up. A dealer in Florida offered to sell me one at 75k over list. I passed. Funny think was the dealer said everyone they had was sold but could get me one at 75k over list. Sounds like somebody was selling a option, and the sales men would get a spiff.

That is wild, I would never have thought the demand to be so strong. Wow. Sure as hell crazy to pay $75k over lol. Tell 'em to go smoke a big White Owl.

Too bad it did not work out, but just as with the 3RS recently, seems there are always some cars popping up when folks can't come up with the nut when the car arrives.

I've never quite understood why you tied up 100k in this the 1st time around? It doesn't seem to me that the size of the deposit has any correlation to the dealers ability to aquire a car. Either they have allocations or don't. Am I missing something? The deposit is just to show good faith. Wouldn't 10 or 20K been enough?

I thought it would have more impact with PCNA and would help. My bad. It was not a big deal to " tie up" the cash, there were funds for this type of project. I was thinking if I were to find a car somewhere this would set me apart from the next guy. At the end of the the day it did not matter. Based on my time line all the cars are sold and I don't pay over list.

All that matters is you're in the right car. Congrats! I know the gt2rs will be really quick but will it be as fun? I think not

I read what you said and the bases you covered in your attempts but did you call Champion in Pompano Beach, FL ?
Anyway what's done is done. I agree with the others, the GT3RS is the car.
On a shorter more technical course the GT3RS maybe faster.

Thanks for the " yata boy". Your track exhaust is something I am looking hard at. The new GT3RS will be first and for most a track car. Getting the excess weight off the rear is going to be a to priority.

I'll be in touch.

Hi Troy I think so too. I've spent a lot of seat time in GT2s and "FANTASTIC" as they are they don't turn me on quite like the engine in a 3. They just don't....

In terms of the track exhaust well it's VERY VERY loud and as long as you're ok with that

There's two different versions now...

This one has small mufflers:

And this one doesn't:
