Need some help with the GT3 RS gen 2

Hello members,

I'm new in this forum, and that's because I'm about to make a move from my current car ( 2006 Z06 ) to 2011 GT3 RS.

I have 2 questions, hope someone can help me with.

1- I came accross an option when building the GT3 RS in the Porsche website, ( to make the steering wheel thicker and in alcantara ). Anyone placed this option in their car? Is it a recommended option or no?

2- did anyone here own both cars ( Z06 & GT3 RS ) or drove both cars??? If you don't mind, can you please give me an idea how these cars are different in terms of driving characteristics and feel??????

Thank you,

I have not owned a Z06 but my brothers owned a number of older Corvettes and I have driven them. One thing you will not want to do in the Porsche is powershift it like a Corvette. It's not made for that. Use a light touch with finesse and do a quick, smooth 2 part shift unless you want to pay $12,000 for a new tranny. You cannot be a caveman with the Porsche transmission.

Also, many people when changing from a front engine car to the rear engine Porsche complain that the front end feels light. Well it is lighter but not something to worry about. Take your time and learn how to drive the difference. The physics of the car are not like a Corvette. Good luck and enjoy.

Thank you,
I have a gen 1 and a gen 2 RS. I did not really like the standard thickness fo the wheel on the Gen 1 car so I ordered the thicker wheel on the gen 2. I love it. Vastly preferable to the standard wheel.........

I have the thicker steering wheel on RS that was spec'ed by the dealer. I have it say it feels much better than the standard wheel and would be a "must" option if I were to respec'd a new car.

How come your center peace on the steering wheel is black? Not regular silver!

Is it an option you add??? Or does it come with the thicker steering wheel??

ZR1 to GT3 RS

I went from a 2010 ZR1 to a 2011 GT3 RS. Really night and day. The vette was raw power, with an amazing torque band bordering on dangerous. The seats in the Vette suck, to put it in the vernacular (actually, the entire interior of the Vette seemed to be out of their Cobalt parts bin). Now to feel: the Porsche is like a razor, the road feel is phenomenal and the overall feel is of being one with the car. For around town, the Vette is definitely more forgiving and is also quieter at speed.
I have had a Z06 as well and to tell you the truth, the ZR1 was overall a better ride, an easy daily driver. The RS isn't a bad DD, but a little more effort than the Vette.
Not sure exactly what comparison you're looking for, but that's a quick comparison

I have 2010 ZR1 and I've been looking at the 2011 GT3 RS.. not sure if I'll make a trade but I am curious which would bring more driving pleasure. The ZR1's performance is just insane... so it is always a blast to drive. However, '11 GT3 RS really looks like a car I wouldn't mind having in my garage to take for a nice spin through the canyons. I wish I could own both.

order the thicker wheel... if you find it too thick, I am sure someone will trade a stock one and cash for yours... no brainer... you will like it anyway.

+1, Thicker wheel is a must - really improves the driving experience unless you like skinny wheels

I had a 2008 zo6 with a bunch of work done; LG headers, bbfusion exhaust, custom tune, intake, coilovers, 3.90 gears, cf hood. I LOVED that car but the interior was just lacking, made of cheap material, and shared a steering wheel with a malibu. The car was a blast to drive and was faster then virtually anything on the road. The suspension made a major difference in the feel and handling, it was night and day. The straight line power was unbelievable. Pinned your head back to the seat and dusted anything you could encounter.
I now have a 2010 GT3 not the Rs but im sure they are very similar.
In the GT3 i feel i have moved up in to a new class of cars. The interior is unbelievable and surprisingly comfortable. The feel of the GT3 is when you forget about the power the zo6. You are connected to the car in no way any other car can replicate. The clutch the gearbox everything is perfect and in the right spot. The shrek of the engine at 8500 is intoxicating and the power is much easier to control. There is no wheel spin, launches are way easier in the Gt3 vs the zo6 sitting there trying to catch traction or yet trying to stay on the road. The gt3 is overall a much better car in all ways. Its just soo fun to drive and it never gets old.

had an 02 z06. after a year, traded for a 03 turbo. now have a 10 gt3. no comparison in quality feel viseral experience. the vette engine always sounded odd to me at wide open throttle. hard to get connected on launch never really felt personally connected to the car. interior quality very lacking in the vette.

go with the rs if you can and you will not regret it.
