Ran Sebring this weekend. Still not feeling the 3.....

I'm not sure what the deal is. Part of the problem is that I'm driving the car just like I drove my 996. Same corner speeds, same brake points, etc.. I'm also shifting too soon as I keep forgetting I have an extra 1000 rpm or so.

Ironically I'm running about 6-7 seconds slower in the GT3 than my 996. Sad, I know... I was running pretty consistent 232's in the 996 and I'm running 240 flat in the 3 with a best of 237. Weak!

Obviously it's me and not the car, because I have seen other GT3's out there killing it.

I did have it aligned after running Homestead but I still feel like I don't have the traction that I should. The 3 year old Pirelli's that the car came from the factory in probably aren't helping the situation. I just couldn't bear to scrap them as I got the car with 4k miles and they had a ton of tread. Two track days later and they don't have so much tread any more

Time for some R888's and then I'll run it again. Hopefully I can get this sorted.

never test tune a car with bad tires. you are chasing your tail.
use a set of new properly shaved (if need be) tires, not used, not discounted old tires, but fresh new tires that you have HAD experience with. so you know that's not a variable.

Don't forget about the heat this weekend as well, many cars were 8-10 seconds off their normal pace at Sebring, both in track temps/traction as well as power loss. Granted you'll have some time to pickup from getting used to the car, but I wouldn't use the other car as a benchmark as much for this particular weekend.

Mate, you answered your own question.

Running on rubbish rubber is basically the difference.

Get yourself some Hoosier R6s and see how bad it feels compared to your 996 after that . Seriously, rubber makes all the difference between getting the GT3 on your good side...

I don't think that the R888's will do your GT3 justice..........

Meaning?
I'm running them on my .1 RS and have zero complaints. Considering costs, useage in heat cycles and effective performance I don't know why so many **** on them. Oh well different strokes I guess.

Cool

Meaning I think there are a lot better track tires.

I see the R888's as more of an agressive street tire.

JMO

I'm glad you are happy with them.

Time for some new tires. I will be there beginning of Sept for 3 days w PBOC. But there is a difference from the 996 to the 997. It took me about 4 months to get to the same times in my RS that I was used to running in my 996 GT3, and another 3-4 months to get 2+ seconds below my 996gt3 average. Post some video for "constructive" critisism :-)
I presume you drive to the track and are still on 19's. In that case R888's would be fine. If you keep driving but get 18's, I would buy RA1's. Of course if you trailer, and money is no object, then get the Hoohoo's. I innitially loved the R888's, especially the stiff side wall, and the fact that they were ready to go from the getgo, but I found that they heat cycled out before they wore out. RA1's last until they cord. The Nitto NT01 are very similar to the RA1's, but getting the correct sizes may be a problem.

the perilli corsas are good up to a certain point of how hard you drive. in my experience, they can't stop the car. the r888's are better up to a certain point of how much harder you drive. in my experience, they are phenomenal 1st half of a session. they fade latter half of session. but they are good learning tires for this car.

Yes it was HOT we ran slower on RA1's than we have run on Michelin PS2's.

If you want to go faster just lock onto Ian's bumper in the GT2 and hang on.

I also 2nd the NT01 or RA1 over the R888. The RA1 also has a decent tread for the wet if they are not shaved.

Simple answer? Throw away the #@$%ing stop watch and JUST ENJOY THE RIDE........

I've had a few thousand laps at Sebring and don't remember the last one I timed. I'll be there this weekend with Chin and it'll be the first time wifey will join me at speed in the GT3. You can be for damn sure I won't be doing any timing this weekend either :-)

The heat was killer this weekend like Wes said. Were you trying to run the same tire psi's as well? Everything was just so hot by the time I got my tire psi adjusted I couldn't run consecutive hot laps. I didn't even bother running on Sun. I did have a lot of fun though.

Yep, still on 19's. Limited options.

Maybe it was the heat then... I'm pretty comfortable at Sebring and was just struggling all day long. I would def take a whack at the Nittos if they made them in 19's.

I can't get a GT3 and not compare my times to the 996. Then again maybe I shouldn't have
