Do I need a GT3?
nice vid, sounds great!
Road, Track, Doing a drive, having a blast to the office, its all good. You can do anything you want in the GT3...Its yours so you make your own rules and use for it!

The GT3 is a completely different car from the S. I was concerned in making the move given the cost/benefit analysis myself, however for me since I track once a month it became an easy decision when the GT3 (2008) price became lower than my 2007 C2 when new. I am blown away at the difference in car.
As the rain POURS in seattle right now, I wonder if a GT3 would be "dangerous" in such wet conditions. I know I could just drive the S4, but since it's 7-8 months of rain here, just trying to get opinions. i read a review that said the OEM tires on a GT3 are not optimal in wet conditions...
Thoughts? Should I be more realistically consider a turbo instead?

It all depends on the tires - the OEM tires are not that good in the rain, but I've run the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 on both models, other than the fact that the Turbo is 4-wheel drive they handle the same in the rain, certainly the same as a 997 S. There are numerous options for tires besides the OEM tires, all are excellent and unless you are a very sophisticated driver pushing the limits you will have difficulty distinguishing between tires. Don't over think it!

For:
Love the look, sound, street compliance & performance, and (to some degree) resell due to rarity.
Against:
I'll rarely track it and at times will use it as a DD
I had a 997S before and loved it. Never felt I realized its potential, but itching to upgrade instead of getting the same car again. Given above, worth the 20k-30k premium?

gt3 is really a track toy and to use it on a street is to waste its capabilities to some degree. and if you will get a turbo you still be able to run it on track without major complications.

Is that a stock exhaust? Sounds great!

And yes, if you are thinking about the 997.1 GT3 (which has no PSM for your daily drive Seattle weather, and with less anti-rust coatings applied to the underbody), I guess a Turbo could be a more realistic consideration.
Regards,
Get the gt3, it's the best overall porsche made. Great DD as long as you consider the front lip disposable. 200.00 per year expense. track wise it is wonderful as well but you'll want to stiffen it for serious track use. be prepared for RMS leaks, search for threads on that. mine is finally fixed but with only 4,500 miles the engine has been out three times, and I only DD it. Porsche response, drive it, ok drive it and you end up with 30 oil spots on your garage floor. not a lot but if it hasn't leaked it will. overall a great and wonderful car.
As others have said, there is no point to a gt3 if it is not used on the track. If you like the looks, great, go for it. For some, they just need to know they have a hardcore car even if they never see it's true potential and in such an instance is just about the passion and not logical.
But if truly enjoying the car for your intended use is a priority, and that is daily commuting, don't get a gt3... On the road you won't be able to experience even 50 percent of what it really is about and for the rest of the time as a daily driver it's just a compromised car for that purpose and not as compliant as a nicely loaded carrera. Get a c2 or c4 and slap on a gt3 or gt3 rs body kit, it will really just be more comfortable and the extra cash in the bank is always nice.

A good point. I still have the S4, so the issue is less about daily driving it vs buying a gt3 and not tracking it. But the points made above are good as well. Guess the decision points are more around buying a gt3 in rainy Seattle and if I should just save for the mk2.
If I don't push the gt3 in the rain, is it really that much more dangerous than a 997S. Find it hard to believe, except maybe an argument based on tires, but it can't be thaaaaat much worse than a 997S
As for mk2, since the mk1 is such a step up from the s2000 I'm driving right now, I should be ok for a year or two before upgrading which I most definitely would want to do. The mk1 is still a very special car.

Is it dangerous? No, but it doesn't suffer fools. If you do get the GT3 take it to a wet auto cross event and push the car a little bit. At least then, you'll know what it's like to have that back end come out.
