10 GT3 for tracking
10 GT3 for tracking
I am looking at a possible 10 GT3 for some tracking. Does anyone here know, or can they find out, what the downforce is on the regular wing versus the RS wing? And weight difference? I had an RS for about 7 months, and the car was very stable. I would like that same feeling on this car as well.
While on this subject, does anyone know a good place to buy the engine cover with a cup wing for a decent price and not the Porsche gouging numbers?
I am also looking at some 07's, so I am wondering the same questions and trying to compare.
Thanks for any help.

An '07 GT3? Do not think you want to go there from where you come. All the US '07-08 GT3's come with sunroofs. Don't think you want that.
Regarding the wing on the 997.1 GT3RS's vs. 997.2 GT3, well the .1 RS wing has more surface area therefore should be more effective.
Regarding the .1 RS wing vs. .2 RS wing, the latter should be more effective by design and uprights.
That said IMHO at our levels of experience / seat time I do not believe we can wring out the difference on the track and speaking for myself I've raced for years.
If you want to find a beater to track, run the snot out of it and be fast. Then get a 996 Cup car or even a 996 GT3 (gut it and prep it). Both are very inexpensive as Porsches go. Have fun and not worry about ones' shiny and beautiful new RS.
Anyway just some random thoughts but there are several options to entertain on this topic.

I saw couple of ads in rennlist racing section about 996 and 997 cup cars for sale. you may want to investigate.
Seems like a lot of .2RS was sold or for sale lately, | wonder why?
I track / own a 997.1 GT3, and have the means to buy a 997.2 RS
In my opinion the 997.1 is a perfect car for the track....why it's price point. you are driving a car that is 50% the cost of a RS.
It will cost half as much to insure for track insurance
You can dirve your 997.1 GT3 and it will not TANK in value like all the RS models out there right now. They have already taken a huge hit.
The track is hard on a car....sure they are made for it, but it is still hard on it.
With the money you saved you can modify your 997.1 and make the suspension just as good
When I leave the track, I open my windows and sunroof and enjoy the drive....yes I enjoy my hole in the roof. I am not a pro driver, I need to lose some weight before I worry about sunroof weight
Last point...in my opinion the narrow body 997.1 is the best looking GT3....hands down....I like the somewhat sleeper look

if you don't care much for oem, try getty design. i don't have any experience with them as far as quality and fitment but price-wise is more realistic than oem.

BR racing has a 10 GT3 that they had a cup wing on... brrperformance.com
I agree with ranger, get a 996 GT3. Really good price and great car! Much cheaper to own and prep for track. Plus you won't have to worry about scratching or anything... They've already depreciated enough.

^Actually, I think it is louder than the youtube post. At least on this car. Everyone, and I mean everyone, wants to start this car and listen. Not many people have the guts to install this product. I wonder how it will compare to the decibal limits of some tracks.
I doubt many folks do have the guts so we like you already
