Porsche promises “spectacular” new model for detroit show

Will this be the 4.0L GT3 RS.......

Porsche will be making its first appearance in four years at next month’s North American International Auto Show in Detroit, and it appears as though the automaker’s return will have been worth the wait.

In a recent interview with Bloomberg, Porsche spokesman Hans- Gerd Bode said that the Germany automaker would be returning to Detroit with something “spectacular”.

“We’ll have something spectacular to show there,” Bode said. “You’ll have to wait and be surprised.”

Porsche is readying a hybrid version of its Panamera sedan, but Bode’s use of the word “spectacular” doesn’t exactly fit a greener version of a car that already exists. So what exactly could Porsche have planned for Detroit?

The German automaker recently confirmed that it was readying a sub-Cayenne SUV called the Cajun, so that smaller ‘ute is certainly a possibility. However, it’s also possible that Porsche could finally show some version of its long-rumored entry-level sports car. Bode didn’t give away any more details, so we’ll just have to wait until early January to know for sure.

In my mind, spectacular would be a GT3 PDK with sport bucket seats with 6 point harness that are both height adjustable and fit tall people...LOL.

No please. (to PDK)

A V8 911????
A 911 Turbo RS??

I don't think there is anything spectacular about an entry level sportscar or a Cajun and surely not another Panamera. If Porsche calls it spectacular it better be = or > a GT2/GT3 RS/Turbo S.

Maybe is the 998!!!!!!!!!

RUF has the V8 911 thing covered and Porsche has already made a "Turbo RS", it's called the GT2/GT2RS

I think it will be the 4.0L/hybrid 997 GT3.

Porsche is planning to reveal a new concept car in its return to the Detroit auto show next month.
Secrecy surrounds the concept, but AutoWeek sources suggest Porsche will signal its intention to produce a new halo supercar based on the same underpinnings as its early 918 Spyder, which was recently confirmed for production by 2013.
Absent from the Detroit show in recent years, the German carmaker says it will mark its comeback to Cobo Hall on Jan. 10 with the unveiling of a “spectacular new concept that points towards a future road-going model.”

Yep, agree.

Porsche has mentioned this a while back, needing to platform-share the Panamera, and has been quiet since, meaning it's imminent or dead.

Probably not dead since it will be a shortened Panamera 2 door coupe/ hatch. It will be cheaper than another new platform and will fill the role of a true GT. Every Panamera engine will carry-over. Convertible will follow.

IMO, no more GT3xx until the 991.

Though the production 918 Sypder is certainly possible, but this really isn't a secret anymore.

The hybrid GT3 would be big news. Panamera Coupe is so 1980s. That would be the 928.
For those just tuning in, the Panamera is the four door 928 conceived in the 80s and finally cobbled together.

GT3 RS LE isn't showing up til next year, says my little bird with a batphone to Stuttgart...

but he did mention a Panamera Turbo-S

IF (and i'm not saying this is the car alluded to) this is what will be unveiled, it doesn't seem "spectacular" to me...

the LE would be something though...

What RUF has is insignificant. They aren't a manufacturer.

And I wasn't talking about a GT2. I'm talking about a real AWD Turbo that's not a bloated GT car.
