GT3 exhaust flaps jammed?
GT3 exhaust flaps jammed?
I have a little problem. I think my flaps in the exhaust is stuck. When i push the sportbutton the sound stays the same, the stay closed no matter what. Anyone else had this problem? Is there anything i can do? Car is a 997 GT3 mk.1

I had this happen to my GT3 about a year ago. Took to a local porsche dealer and they performed a smoke test, discovered it was a vacuum hose that had come lose at the motor. Simple fix!
Just how big of a difference is it supposed to be? Mine doesn't sound noticeably different when the sport button is on, is it noticeable during regular driving or only when pushing it?
Where is this vacuum hose located? A picture would be awsome!
the other way to know if its working is with sport "on" the exhaust flaps open at 3k rpm vs 4k rpm for sport "off".
It was behind the intake. Don't have any pictures, but they didn't have to drop the engine!

Snowboarder is right... happens a lot but due to all sorts of reasons. Look underneath the car at the valves/actuators themselves. I've seen people hit them coming out of driveways and physically damage them to the point that one doesn't function. Also the internals themselves fail etc... It's a warranty and known failure
Had a similar problem, found one of the vacuum actuators was damaged and the valves wouldnt close. Replaced the actuator and now the valves wont open with the sport button.
If the valves close on vacuum, how is the vacuum switched off? All the hoses are good as I get good vacuum to have the valves close. If I unplug the switch up by the intake, the valves stay closed. I can manualy close the valves by hand but they go back to closed when I release them so they are free to open and close. Also if I remove the vacuum hose from the actuator the valves will open.
Bad switch?
Any ideas?

I still think you have a vacuum leak
I also believe that the valves only use vacuum to open, not to close. Has the check engine light come on?Had a similar problem, found one of the vacuum actuators was damaged and the valves wouldnt close. Replaced the actuator and now the valves wont open with the sport button.

No check engine light. Im pretty sure the valves close on vacuum. ran a camera up the exhaust to see if the valves were open or shut. with vacuum they are shut, no vacuum ( hose off the actuator) valves open.
Bearman: I have the EXACT same problem on my GT3. But i have a Cargraphic exhaust on my car, but the same problem nonetheless. I will call Porsche center and ask what they think the problem is
Happened to me today on my 997.2 GT3. Car was sitting for 8 days and decided to drive it today. Pressed sport button, exhaust sound at 3-4K RPMs didn't change like usual, but instead drone in cabin increased. Drove for a couple miles and then it was back to normal.
cargraphic
The 1st gen cargraphic exhausts tend to have problem with sticking valves due to heat buildup they have upgraded heatshields now. Talk to your supplier.
