Based on your reasoning for wanting to change, I think you'll be lured by another "limited edition" model before the 4.0 RS becomes a collectible. You already have a special car. Drive it and enjoy it!

Thanks for the RS 4.0 advise everybody!

still have one on order at msrp. know makes no financial sense and will decide if I am going to take it or pass. Biggest concern is whether 991 model gt3 will be much better or lose some soul. Anyways, originally ordered white but the black is really starting to grow on me and looks unique. What color would you guys order and do you think next generation will be much better?

I'd stick with white, looks so beautiful in white. Just belongs to GT3... Plus if you track black will be PAI to keep clean.

I think 997 was the pinnacle of Porsche model. It had that modern/retro look to it. I think the new 991 will look like a little like a Japanese car. The Panamera console looks hideous, the car has grown in size significantly... It's just not looking the same, probably won't feel the same either.

Who knows what the next model GT3/RS will bring in terms of motor. Maybe a flat 8 like most are thinking or a DFI engine, maybe even PDK...

I'm not going to say "if I were you" again since I'm not and don't have the financial situation to buy a 4.0L RS, but if you are planning to keep it this will be a once in a lifetime thing. Limited production, and will be the first owner

As a track junkie I'd just keep the 3.8L RS, put a good LSD unit on there, buy a second set of wheels and a lifetime supply of brakes & tires and just beat the living hell out of it on the track

All good points and thanks. I really hope to keep this one a long time. Found out that 4.0 conversion on a 3.8 runs 40k. Makes the factory 4.0 seem like not such a bad deal. I also feel that the 911 might start to morph into something else. I agree that white seems right but did u look at the black on the configurator? Looks nice with silver wheels and the decals. But maybe it's just the appeal of something different. By the way, latest # of 4.0's coming to US is 112.

Thanks for the info. Any and all info is good info. However, who is your source on only receiving 112 cars to the U.S. market?

That statement reminds me of sneakerheads who buy the kicks just to say that they have them, 99% of them dont even wear them! Will you ever track a track build GT3? if not then who cares, your car is beautiful already.

OP, if you enjoy your car, do just that and enjoy it.

Unless you have money to burn and I mean real money I say don't do it. Porsche is famous fro making these end of production limited additions, this year alone, you have the speedster, gts and now a 4.0. Also I think you would more likely get in the 120-130 tops. Two weeks ago I bought a 2011 RS with 1400 miles for 133k and there were several for sale for less. My suggestion is to wait for the new GT3 RS whenever it comes out. But then again I can relate to just having to have something for the F*** of it. Good luck either way.

If you don't track the car, it makes no sense. That's like trading in Scarlett Johansson for Megan Fox plus $$$$, but you haven't and never will get horizontal with either!

Presuming you're going to keep it, for a loooong time then do it. It's a special car. But stick with the white.

As others have noted, it makes little fiscal sense given minimal tangible difference @ street level and upcoming 991 potential. $70k if fortunate. You have an incredible vehicle and would consider sitting on hands to see what plays out next 12 months. My wife (neuroradiologist) would rightfully murder me for making such a decision just on principle, even though I earn more than 10x her annual. Of course, to each their own.

When the new GT3 comes out, will you have the urge to update to the newest one, if yes, then pass on the 997 4.0. If its a car you can truly keep for a long time, and you can take the financial hit of dropping the RS then I would say ..... do it.

No right answer to this. Buying cars usually defies logic from one point or another, one just has to decide of that logic is way too distorted in ones own personal situation.

If you can do it and not think twice about the money you're losing, then why not?

I'd probably keep the current car and buy something else in addition, if I was in spending mode. Wouldn't have to be another car, maybe another $100K+ painting for the house.

Or make a meaningful donation to your favorite charity, to help others less fortunate.
