disconnecting the battery
disconnecting the battery
I have a 2007 GT3. I park in a public garage where there are not any electrical outlets to plug in a battery tender. I don't want the battery to run down as I usually only drive the car every 10 days or so. Does anyone have an experience with using a battery disconnect on these cars ? I have used it successfully on other cars in the past, just never tried a Porsche. Basicly when the car is not in use, I just turn the dial to disconnect negative post. Then turn in back when I want to run the car. Will I get any error codes or airbag lights that I have to take to the dealer for reset etc ? The owners manual does not seem to indicate that anything like this would happen. Just looking for some real world answers if anyone can help ? Thanks.
I've disconnected the battery on my friends 2010 GT3 a few times and observed no abnormal error codes when reconnected. If you drive the car every 10 days though I really don't see the need for a battery disconnect switch. Unless you have some sort of other abnormal drain on the system the parasitic loss should be very minimal during that week and a half period. One of my cars (purchased new in November of 2005) gets driven even less than that and its still on its stock battery, I've never disconnected it and don't use a tender either.
I disconnected the battery through the winter and only drove it 2 times in 3 months. Every time I drove it after being disconnected for a few days it showed a PASM error code and TC error code. The error codes disappeared after a few meters though.. so I've never worried about that and never had any problems.
