Talk to some people you know that are good drivers and know you and choose with them, not people that have no idea how you drive and what you can afford.
I started with my 997S street car and now its a full blown race car with every part of the car modded except the powertrain.
I modded the car as I improved and after a few years, I'm finally driving the car at its full potencial. I improved as the car improved, and vice versa.
If you do want this strangers advice, build or buy a full caged race car with all the safety equipment and a proven platform like 997S or GT3 as you suggested.
Whats more expensive than wrecking a porsche is wrecking yourself, hospital bills are much more than body shop bills.
If you drive within YOUR limits and stay out of trouble the car will be blemish free for years.
Go to a trusted nearby race shop or race friends and have a real conversation and be realistic about how much you are comfortable spending on a car and a budget for everything else.
Is tracking expensive, YES.
Is racing MORE expensive, YES.
But I would not trade this hobby for any other one in the world, and you only live once.

It sounds like you already bought a track car (RS) - why not use it?
Take it slow, be smart, ease into it.
Sure, you can buy another car not set up for track and mod the hell out of it. Or you can use the track car you already bought.

I agree with drl..., you've got one heck of a track car. Spend some money and get pro instruction..., then drive well within your means. I still have much slower cars blow by me and I'm good with that. See if the costs involved are to your speed and grow into your car. Caveat..., all drivers do NOT get better with practice!
