Hoosier drive to track?

A couple questions: I live just 30 miles from a local track. Any thoughts on drivability and wear of some nice hoosiers driven to track and back mounted on some, yet undecided, wheels. Leaning towards some OZ black center locks from tire rack( love the HRE's just not the price or wear and tear at track). Not particularly worried about legality or rain as I can deal/avoid both as necessary. Also, 18" v. 19". Thanks.

Try and PM tw_turbo: See the link below. He drove to the track, not sure how far. I live about 60 miles from Laguna and 70 from Infineon...I don't drive to them with my R6's mounted, but have them shuttled for me.

Just don't get caught in the wet....prefer 18" on track for 997 or 996 although 19" on a 997 are ok but more expensive

You are fine driving to and from track if you are 30 miles away. Just make sure it's not pouring rain. I've done it (40 miles from track) and it was no problem. I have 19" OZ rims and they have been great.

Just curious: will there be a heat cycle penalty for doing this?

maybe on a real rough road on a very hot day...but for 30 miles highway probably not....possible penalty is an easy puncture

Thanks for the info. I am leaning towards 19" . I have zero experience with hoosiers other than casual observation. I have a 2011 GT3. What exact tires/sizes do you guys recommend and should they be heat cycled prior to purchase and how many cycles do you typically get. I see the guys marking the tires after sessions. Tried to match wheels and tires on tire rack and no hoosiers pulled up?

PS another quick question. Is it necessary to buy for 440 dollars the tire pressure monitoring system when you purchase aftermarket wheels? Will the sensors not read with OZ wheels? Thanks.

I run 235/35/19 and 315/30/19 on my 2011 RS. This is not stock sizing (and therefore searching tire rack website by car will yield no results) but lots of people use this set up. Some guys do a 265 in front but this apparently requires some tweaking for good results.

I ordered the TPMS on my OZ Ultraleggeras, but it is not necessary. The TPMS in these cars actually seems pretty accurate, but I still don't really use it. Even if you have it, you know you will of course be manually checking pressures at the track.

I use the exact same sizing for my Hoosier R6s as DRL above (I have a 2011 GT3). I also have the TPMS on my OZ Ultraleggeras...I like it.

Ben-
You can definitely do it, as people have said just dont get caught in the rain.
Probably a good investment too as the the Trofeo's Jose and I have been running dont hold up much better.

See you in Feb.

Steve

I used the 18's - Kumhos V710's there DOT and grip like a madda, still bad in the heavy rain - little cheaper
