Arrow Fellow GT3 Owners: Your advice please!

Hi all- I just bought a low mileage 2007 GT3, partially based on what I read here in this forum! I'm very excited about getting my 'new' car, which doesn't arrive for a few weeks, but I already have some questions for you all:
(if my questions have been answered elsewhere, please post the link for me)

1. Is it possible to safely and cleanly mount 997 rear seats in the car? I want to take my two young children to school occasionally, and would like the option to do so. Bonus points if they can be removed easily as well.

2. The GT3 wing is a little large & tall for my personal taste- What options do I have for smaller/ more subtle fixed wings? (I kinda like the Sport Classic ducktail wing.) Is this blasphemy?

3. I'm looking at swapping out the stock wheels, and the aftermarket set I found comes in a 8.5" front but only a 11" rear width. I know mine are 12" rears now. Will the narrower rim width be an issue?

4. Any other must do DYI maintainance or mod advice? The car already has the Fabspeed intake set up.

Thanks so much in advance for your advice! I'm really looking forward to learning from this forum more...

You can definitely put rear seats and belts in, but be sure to have a VERY competent shop do it since your most prized possession's are at stake. For great pricing you're best bet is probably through Suncoast and they're a board sponsor too! A few people have done it, just not sure where the links are to those.

Taking off the rear wing...BLASPHEMY!!! He's a witch, burn him!!!! But I have to say, the Ducktail would probably look really nice! Especially if you coupled them with the Fuch's look wheels that go with it like the Sport Classic below, not sure about the sizing though, might need wheel spacers to make them work right. Judging from my avatar pic, you can tell that I'm a big fan of the Ducktail era Porsche's and I think the Sport Classic look is a really nice homage to the GT3's ancestor, the Carrera RS!

First welcome to the GT3 club and this side.
But wow I hate to burst your bubble, so here it goes
You definitely bought the wrong car .... This is a GT3, not some Cali Cool Car Jesse James or Pimp my Ride mod project! What is up with some of you leftcoast folks? I just don't get it
NO to rear seats
NO to ducktail
NO to skinny wheels and tires or oversized too too wide wheels and tires

You should start looking for a Turbo or a used GTS or a C2/C4 - this is what you should have bought to mod up.

If you can stand to leave it as it was made, a GT3 - look at a bypass for it. Aftermarket wheels are ok , but at least keep the stock size or go a slight bit larger. Wheels/tires that are undersized or wheels/tires that stick out way past the fenders will look stupid. It does not sound like you are going to track it, so no use spending money to enhance the track ability.

Rear seats can be added, but why? Porsche makes a bunch of models with rear seats as it is. Those models are also better suited as a daily driver. The GT3 is a track monster.

The rear wing on a 2007 is not as obtrusive as some of the newer GT3 wings. The car is wind tunnel tested and engineered to work best with this rear wing and front aero package. Messing with either will likely have an adverse affect on handling.

Same with the wheels - changing the specs the factory engineers developed will not likely improve the handling characteristics of the car.

I agree with the other posters - you bought the wrong car for your needs. Sort of like buying a hammer and modifying it to become a screwdriver. Get the right tool for the job from the start!

Wow, tough crowd! But I have to agree, the GT3 sounds like the wrong car for your needs.

I appreciate the feedback guys- tough as it may be. Let me clarify my situation a little bit, to help you understand why I'm asking these questions. I was originally looking for an older 997TT for this exact reason. I do need rear seats occasionally, and I will likely only do a track day once a year, if that. The reason I bought this GT3 was that the price was super right and miles were super low, and it's just a downright gorgeous car. This car would have been above my budget if it was perfect, but the previous owner gave it little love and it was driven carelessly- hence the low price. It was just a toy to him I guess. It wasnt my first choice, but I feel likeI saved it from a cruel death:He scraped the crap out of the chin spoiler and two of the original wheels actually have curb rash beyond repair- That's why im looking at replacement wheels. (If anybody is selling one stock front and rear wheel, I'm all in!!) For the rear wing, I'm just asking about options here- I'm not going to throw the original one away!

Hope I've shed some light on my inquiries now- still open to your helpful advice!

If you got it for a great price, buy a low cost kid hauler, and leave the GT3 as is (with some minor repairs). I take my kids in my car, but only one at a time, when I need to drag them around or do the things in life that require a car with some room, I use my VW.

As for the wheels, you would be surprised what wheel repair people can do, also chin spoilers are consumables, they get thrashed all the time...regardless of how careful you are. The GT3 is an amazing car, and you should really enjoy driving it.

Thanks, NorthVan- That's great advice! I didn't mean to get started on the wrong foot here with my alarming questions. I will be driving and enjoying the GT3 thoroughly!

OP:

I believe some structural bits have been removed from the GT3 that are required to add back seats, so this is a bigger deal to do than you think - I agree that if you needed back seats you should be looking at another car - FWIW I would not mess with it or put my kids back there if I did.

Blasphemy on the wing thing.....

Narrow rims on the rear would not be a good idea due to handling issues not to mention the looks. If you need new wheels, get the stock sizes in aftermarket HRE, or OZ or any other good aftermarket wheel (as mentioned in another post).

Congratulations on the car, but you may want to evaluate why you got the GT3. It may not work for what you want by the sounds of it.

No problem, I am new to the GT3 ownership as well, many of the owners are purists and adding stuff to them that is well covered by other models is almost sacrilegious. I am in the same belief, as my first car a 997C2S should have been a GT3, and I would be bothered by those that weren't using there car the way it was meant to be.
