That may happen should I progress out of the turtle green run group...
I do have a safecraft 5lb Halon mounted in front of the passenger seat. Offers a little protection, if I am still conscious...

You think that's bad...

Some people may laugh, especially since I am just begining this journey. All I can say, especially after Ben's tragedy... "you can't be protected enough". Keeping my head stable in the event of impact along with giving myself more time to get out the car in the event of fire(nomex suit) is the important thing. **** the naysayers....
Imagine the crap I'm going to get at the AX's with my Boxster and it's full roll cage, Evo2 seats, Teamtech 6 point harnesses with RAMPAC pads, helmet, HANS device, 3 layer fire suit with gloves and boots, quick release steering wheel and tow hook (not to mention -3 degrees rear camber).

For those of you with cages...

make sure you have the stiff (hard) roll bar padding.

If your getting a firesuit you will need to get to a shop that can custom fit one for you. Your taller than me and I have problems at 6'4" with standard size suits racking my stones when getting in and out of the car or lifting my arms.

This past weekend had an unfortunate incident with my gt3. Hit the concrete wall at Road America at over 100 mph. Arai helmet, Hans, Tech roll bar. Scroth 6 pt harness. full suit the whole bit. Don't think you are going to look silly. I walked away with a sprained thumb. Be safe.

You cant have enough. I had my first track day at Fernely Reno last week. Put in my roll bar GT3 seats harnesses this week. Got my Sparco suit yesterday Europeans are a LOT smaller than Americans. I got a 56 (180lbs-5'10") I put it on and my nieghbor came over, and she asked me if I would play Santa next year at the school play. Sheesh. But it is a 3 layer nomex. Now with Ben I am looking at HANS too.

Yeah and Aye's gotz some pretty big balz. Sounds painful if the fire suit fits like spandex...
At 6'7" a custom order is in order....

gt3 racer:
A personal and serious question...
When you fall off the horse like that are you ready to get back on in a general sense, financial considerations ect aside ?

The euro's fail to accomodate large folk like myself miserably. I think simpson has nomex suits with a 35" inseam. My blue jeans are 36". Perhaps that will be close enough to avoid the "Nut ******* Effect" ???

I can't wait to get back" in" the horse. It took a few days to get over it. It might be a fight with the insurance but I think they will come around. I have the support of many PCA members. I think it is imperative that these companies pay for DE incidents due to the language in the policy which dissscuses competative timed events or they will evetually change their language. The cost of repair is close to 35K so far. I have full support from my family, God love them. When my 9 year old son saw the car he said: "Dad, I don't think Pops-a-Dent is going to fix this one"

I have gone through several helmets and found that the ARAI GP5
has a great fit and comfort feel with excellent ventilation.
Ultimately the fit and lightweight is important

Good question!

If safety is my #1 concern, is the cup car the only choice?
Good question. For me the choice was Ruf primarily because of the integrated roll cage.Suits my high speed open road race events purpose very well.I did add a fuel cell, fire suppression system and "side bars." Although I hate the hot 3 layer fire suit I do wear it as well as arm restraints.

Cheers

P.S.
My hat of choice?Stand 21.

Chris,
Everyone here has spoke of the HANS device. I have been looking at the ISAAC. I like the design of it better than the HANS device. Time (Colorchange) uses it already. If you find it is what you want to do, let's see if we can get a two purchase discount.

Here is the ISAAC:

Here is the HANS:
