MrChan is infamous around these parts
If u park a car for two weeks for a trip and it starts to leak again after replacing, and the dealer simply tell you u have not drive the car frequently enough. I do not think you can go on a vacation without having ur friend driving ur car hard on the street. BTW, idling the car is not good enough to build up the vacuum according to my dealer, and they hint me to drive hard, so that to keep it from leaking#$%^&#*@&*@ Since the 1st leak, and it will keep leaking. If u buy into this BS engineering design, sorry I am not in the yr 2010. I simply let it leaks nowadays. If all sports car even race engine behave like this as normal, i would not be *****ing. Sorry Porsche, you lost my respect on the RMS design for this engine in specific.

I have to agree with Mr Chan on those points, in this day and age one should expect these problems to be corrected ..... but lucky for Porsche most of us suffer from the same condition that Love is in fact blind

Smokey start-ups?. I would say this is not normal and I am wondering if your RMS oil drips are somehow getting onto your exhaust. If not.. I would get an engine compression check done and when you do that, also do an oil analysis. And as suggested, leaving your oil in the car for more than a year is not the prudent maintenance schedule for a high powered car. Keep us posted. This is an interesting "case"

^^^ok......

I'm going to go out on a limb and disagree with you on the smoky startups. Mine smokes on startups and my last oil change poured out 9.5 quarts. The same amount I poured in a few months earlier. Smoky startups are pretty much a common occurrence with these cars.

^^^ This.

As I said before mine will smoke every now and again for a few seconds on start up and there never seems to be a set pattern to it. It also doesn't use any oil that I have noticed. I have owned many Pcars, some have used a litre of oil every few thousand kms and didn't smoke at all and vice versa.

Do a search on this site and others like rennlist and you will find numerous threads on this subject

Despite the leaks and smoke-on-startups, Porsche engines have proven to be very durable even when driven hard. There are many examples of high mileage motors in the Pcar realm which I dare say is not matched by other "exotic" sports car brands to the same degree. There isn't a car out there that doesn't have parts that break or issues somewhere with design/engineering. There's lots of components involved. If one focuses on certain aspects of a car that's "wrong" rather than the many things that are right about it, you can easily carry that focus (on what's wrong) over to any other brand that you replace your Pcar with - and still end up dissatisfied. Put a mat under the car when parked, focus on what is truly fun and great about your car - and drive it as much as possible. I think that can't be too bad an idea.

So in the case of the RMS does one live with the leak or should one replace it when it leaks?

Rms

There is quite a difference between a weeping RMS and a "leaking" RMS. If you don't drive the car regularly, the RMS will leak no matter how many times you replace it. So, the key is to drive it! That being said, if the car is under warranty, have them change it because it is a pretty expensive option when you are out of warranty. Also, Porsche has to agree that it is leaking before they agree to picking up the repair bill.
