New EPA Ethanol Rules
New EPA Ethanol Rules
The EPA is ready to enforce an increase in the percentage of Ethanol in gasoline from 10 to 15%. I have had my concerns with the 10%, but I have read that increasing Ethanol's content to 15% may cause serious engine problems. I am curious if anyone has heard anything about definitive relative to the impact of this new standard. Has anyone knowledge of Porsche's position on this standard? I tried to understand if Porsche would honor their warranty when gasoline suddenly had 10% content, but the Porsche Dealer I used had no idea. I never got any response to the question.
I had seen comments Like: A higher-than-10 percent mix is not recommended for a vehicle without a flex fuel engine. Seemed like manufacturers would be designing new engines systems to better deal witht he fuel, but my engine was built in 2004.
Nothing to worry about, in cars with old carburetors, and metal gas tank, that could be a problem, if the alcohol concentration is too high, the ECU has the ability to compensate for this minimal difference.
For example:
A car that is converted from gas to straight ethanol - 100%, would use (average) 30% more fuel than a gasoline car. You are completely same, by having your ECU adding 3% of fuel and most likely not prone to any kind of corrosion.
