There's nothing exciting about the new GT3, yet the entry level Carrera S was ranked best drivers car equipped with PDK

Can anyone think of other cars that have immediately gone from manual only to automated transmission only?

I mean, Ferrari offered both alternatives for many years until bring out the 458, as have pretty much any other car maker I can think of.

Perhaps we have only seen PDKs in spy shots, should we await confirmation that it will be PDK only or is this a "confirmed" rumour?

It does seem like a strange decision, given how the GT3 is celebrated as a true driver's car, to ditch the manual transmission so abruptly.

If the idea is to beat the GT-R and the like with a PDK, surely a manual can be offered as well, and surely the fuel economy of the manual can't be an issue if it is acceptable in the normal 991.

You never know what will end up happening... I wouldn't doubt if they end up offering a manual as a no-cost option.

Personally, I'll be welcoming the PDK.

Personally I think a manual will be offered.

Why would Porsche offer a manual on the 991 Carrera but not the GT3, makes no sense to me.

If a manual was not offered on any model 991 it would be a strong indication that Porsche is going all PDK but since it is offered on the Carrera I would be very surprised if it is not also offered on the GT3.

Unfortunately we will have to wait a while before we know for sure.

Of course they are offering a manual.
Right now they are just delighted with all the discussions going on in all the Porsche forums and the magazines about the PDK-only thing, and nobody is discussing that the engine is no longer a dry-sump which should REALLY upset people. The race-inspired Mezger engine replaced with a common wet-sump engine, and nobody cares.
Porsche marketing guys are brilliant, pure genius .

Sump chang - is this true? I had not heard this. Is it no longer based on the GT1 motor? I've always understood the GT1 motors were stronger than the m series motors. If they are making this change I wonder what the reliability will be.
