well done. It will be interesting how the airbag system works out, it throws codes for resistance on a good day!

When do you think you will turn the key?

Cheers

Yesterday but nothing happened. We pulled the fuel pump fuse, and were all giddy to check the compression but now we're chasing a "Depress Clutch Pedal" problem. It's not the microswitch/fuse, we tested it on a meter. We also tried to jump the switch just incase, but the car is still feeling stubborn. We're waiting for our PIWIS to come in(DHL says today) so we can sort the issue out and code the RCM.

BIG smile!

I know I speak for countless others who have been following your adventure. It is great to hear it "alive" again. Wishing you many happy hours behind the wheel.

That's great news/noise!!

Sounds surprisingly civilised considering the straight pipes, guess your recording devices doesn't full show the sound pressure to the full.

Very happy for you both.

Cheers

P.S change the oil once you can get it warm and then again after 500km to remove all trapped moister and contaminates.

Thanks John! We're beyond excited and relieved that we don't have to dig into the motor!

I was pretty surprised at how civil it sounded in person to be honest! Those cats really quiet the motor down! Granted, we weren't revving it too hard, but it wasn't so loud that we couldn't talk over it. I was also a little surprised at how smoothly it ran considering it has ~4month old gas in it. STFT numbers were right around +-1.

We let it warm up to proper oil temperature last night(then held a sustained ~3krpm for a min or 2) to make sure everything gets hot enough to reseat itself. We're gonna run a compression check tonight and change the oil again.

Left to fix so far: Driver's seat reclining motor is toast, Airbag check/reset, Code RCM, Sort out PSM/ABS(might just be a matter of reseting the system) and bleed the brakes. Minor setback - we recieved the wrong harddrive for our PIWIS system so a lot of these fixes are going to have to wait a week or two.

Really piling on with the project, nice work! What a pain getting the wrong harddrive. Its set backs like that that really add the time.

Update - Will post some specifics to the blog in the next couple days, but car is back on the road! Not legally yet; we still need to get airbags sorted and then do a state inspection. We took the car for a test drive through the neighborhood and everything seems to work pretty brilliantly. Suspension feels great, compression checked out, engine pulls smoothly to redline, clutch grabs strong, brakes need to be bedded still but feel good, ABS/PSM work, bearings and bushings feel good!

We're very close! Thanks for the suggestions and help. I'll get some pictures for you all soon!

Excellent, looking forward to the last chapter!

I still think the airbag system will cause problems, doen't mess around if problems show on the circuits, just replace both the male and female connectors or that part of the loom.

The good thing is the airbag system should give good detail of the fault type and where, i.e. high resistance on wire/connector/circuit xyz and the Porsche fault diagnostics/workflows are great.

Yup, the car is finished! Everything works like it should except for the chronosport. Someone ripped it out of the car and took the wiring harness with it. So we need to rewire that, but otherwise, it works like a charm. No faults found! Inspection date mid month and then we'll be terrorizing the streets

I just put up the pictures of the finished car that I have on my phone. As requested, I'll post some updates on how the car is running for the next few years. We actually picked up a 996TT in a little rougher condition thats been keeping us busy. I don't think that's gonna be quite as easy as this car though. Atleast the motor looks good so far!
