I currently have a Smaty Cam \ MXL, is my assumption correct that the Smarty Cam HD is a direct replacement to the Smarty Cam? IOW, simply connect the two cables operating the current Smarty Cam to either of the two HD camera setups and all data will record the same onto the new Smarty Cam HD?

Also, does AIM offer an overlay graphic that appears the same as the MXL dash yet?

Tim

Yes. SmartyCam HD will use the same cables as the current version.

New software will be released along with the HD camera release, so hopefully that will include some new graphic choices as well.

What does the new Smarty cam do better than the original one?

It now records HD videos, has more intuitive controls/LCD screen layout, full-sized SD cards for easier handling, and full aluminum construction.

If I had to, not having HD would be my only gripe with the current SC, looking forward to HD. BTW Richard, is the wide angle lens different in the HD from the current SC and any different between HD vs HD bullet?

From my understanding there will only be one version of lens offered for HD and HD GP. AiM recently made some changes to the lens pack so I don't have the exact horizontal field of view spec, but I would expect it to be similar as before.

I saw something on another forum that indicated the true launch should be September 2013. Sounds like AIM wasn't happy with the performance of the product and has made some improvement over the past months.

It has been released for sometime and a number of guys on the Rennlist forum have been using it with mixed results.
