New Porsche 991 GT3. First Drive. - CHRIS HARRIS ON CARS

I've actually caught a few references that the Porsche engineers made towards the Nissan GTR, so I do believe they consider it a firm competitor (albeit at a lower price point). There is no denying whatsoever that Porsche did need to up their game (starting with the 997.2 Turbo) to respond to Nissan's GTR though...it was a game changer whether you like it or not.

Ok that makes a lot of sense. It seems each iteration becomes more refined. Im sure this will be a great car all around.

Maybe Porsche will offer a manual in the RS version in a year or so?
Clearly if Porsche needs to offer both PDK and manual in this car. BMW offers a manual in its new M5 and the upcoming M3/M4.

This was an initial preview....
I am sure that CH will do a more in depth review once the cars are officially released in about 6 weeks time to the press.
However, based on this short one, this car will meet all my expectations of what/how I thought it would be.
The bad part for me is I still have another 6 - 8 months to wait before I get mine !!!

Looks like this will be a killer street car! And I imagine Porsche will sell every one they make. However, I still don't think it's worthy to carry the 'GT3' badge. I guess only time will tell.

I'll enjoy the heck out of mine for sure, regardless of the type of trans it uses.

I just googled it, very interesting. I stand corrected, the Porsche engineers were definitely taking the GTR into account. The best part of the read is they were able to succeed. The bad part is they are selling the car that beat it for nearly 2-3X the cost of the GTR. Thanks for your post.

In an ideal scenario I am trying to keep my 07 GT3 for the track and get the 991 GT3 for weekend (nontrack fun)and sell my 2009 C4S with PDK. Still trying to get the delta manageable.
