Battery for '11 GT3?
It's kind of funny, I have had the exact opposite experience, the Sears batteries I have used, have all failed without any warning and have never had issues with Optimas. This was a few years ago though and maybe the Optima's have gone down the drain (no pun intended). The only good thing about the Sears batteries I used was their replacement policy. I got three of them replaced for free.
I guess this is one of the real benefits of these forums where varied experience and knowledge comes into play. Before reading these posts, I would have "blindly" bought an Optima battery for my other cars, but now I will do a bit more research.

You are right and everyone has different experiences, but Optimas have really just soley depended on their big name for a long long time. The quality isn't there any more. I agree with you on the Sears thing as a whole, but their Platinum battery(expensive but compact) really is good in my humble experience for a lead battery, and their customer service is WAY better than Optima. i simply threw them away as you can't really talk to anyone in person I know of like Sears.
I would like to try lithium batteries(especially in my performance cars and jet skis, but am scared to be the guinea pig on new technology, especially when I hear about fires no matter how remote, when I store my stuff for long periods of time. I think they are safe and good but just dont know. I do know their effective spontaneous discharge rate is really low which is good.
Let us know your decision. I have had every lead and AGM battery under the sun. I just replace them at 4 years or so and don't press my luck because getting stranded is so much more time consuming and painful than springing for a new battery. I also just enjoy working on my stuff too.
The 2011 GT3 I purchased recently has a week battery. Actually died on me while at dinner last night. The car came with the lightweight, OEM battery. My question is, should I buy another lightweight battery? Or is there something else out there that will work better? Being that I live in FL, I have to believe that the aux fan is running more than it would in cooler climates, causing the battery to drain more. I'm always interested in saving weight, but not at the expense of being stranded.

I would have your own mechanic install it rather than at the Sears Auto center.
Well, I just bought a battery from Advance Auto yesterday. Measures 1 1/2" wider (or would it be longer) than the OEM lightweight battery that came with the car. Nothing special, but it does have a 36 month warranty, then 60 month pro-rated. Took me about 10 minutes to replace, and works perfectly. Advance did have a battery with the same measurements as the OEM lightweight one, but I think the cranking amps were too low, which sucks because I swear it was lighter than the OEM one.
If I start getting into tracking a bit more seriously, I might start looking into the lightweight options. But for now, I just want reliability.
Thanks again for all the input.
