Battery for '11 GT3?

The 2011 GT3 I purchased recently has a week battery. Actually died on me while at dinner last night. The car came with the lightweight, OEM battery. My question is, should I buy another lightweight battery? Or is there something else out there that will work better? Being that I live in FL, I have to believe that the aux fan is running more than it would in cooler climates, causing the battery to drain more. I'm always interested in saving weight, but not at the expense of being stranded.

Car has 15,000.

Thank you,

Charles

Take a loot at VoltPhreaks.com

They have some incredibly light weight batteries that are very durable and long lasting. I have their VY900 my 997 turbo (pushing 650 hp - so under full acceleration the secondary jets really kick in thus drawing a lot of power for the updated pump) and in checks the voltage has not dropped under full acceleration, hence the reserve capacity is quite good.

There is also a remote on/off switch which can be mounted inside the car, so that if you leave for a long period of time you can turn the battery off. Since I don't drive my car that much this is a life saver for me. In case you leave the car for a long time and forget to turn it off, and the voltage drops to a certain level it automatically turns off so that you have enough power to start the car.

I have left my turbo without turning off the battery for 4 weeks at a time and have had no issues with the battery turning off and the turbo really sucks power when it is parked.

If you give them call ask for Tom or Andrew and you can mention that Bob with the turbo sent you.

For full disclosure, I am just a customer and have no affiliation whatsoever with the company or their employees, I just love their products.

Cheers.

My apologies, ask for TONY or Andrew, not Tom. Sorry about that.

Thanks for the reply, however, I just need a battery that I can count on. I drive my car fairly often (at least 4 times a week), so I have no need for battery switches, etc. Are the batteries you recommended durable and reliable? I've read that you can lose some of that with lightweight batteries.

Lithium batteries are light and durable but have proven to be remote fire risks. They are nice though.

My choice is Diehard Platinum AGM. And suggest a battery tender for longer periods of nonuse, because the electronics in these cars kills batteries. It will last for years with this method.

I guess my real question is, can I just drive to Auto Zone and buy a battery that will work?

Before I went to Sears for the AGM Platinum I actually went to Autozone. They have good warranties, which you will need, because the guy there selling them openly admitted their brand was not that good. Autozone is cheaper though.

The Volphreaks battery has proven to be very reliable for me and I have checked it and have not felt it get hot yet.

If you want a very reliable battery, look at the Optima line of batteries. They are excellent also.

I am glad you brought that up. Paid money for SEVERAL Optima batteries. Had two red tops and a yellow top in my Corvette. None of them lasted beyond two years even with a tender. Total junk in my book and expensive to boot. I like my chances dealing with Sears instead but good luck! Many many other people have had similar problems with Optima. I suggest you Google it.

I have no more to add to the discussion so I will bow out. I was just using my history to go by.

^^ I've heard similar but didn't wanna knock the brand. I had one in a previous truck and wasn't impressed.

No affiliation. Talk to this guy and buy one of his at 1/3 the cost of other lightweight batteries out there. They work well, do not drain and have plenty of cranking power. And they weigh about 5 pounds.

I have had a Voltphreaks VPR-P6 for several years now with zero issues. It is also a perfect fit for the Rennline battery mount kit. Weight is approximately 6 pounds. Great product.

It's kind of funny, I have had the exact opposite experience, the Sears batteries I have used, have all failed without any warning and have never had issues with Optimas. This was a few years ago though and maybe the Optima's have gone down the drain (no pun intended). The only good thing about the Sears batteries I used was their replacement policy. I got three of them replaced for free.

I guess this is one of the real benefits of these forums where varied experience and knowledge comes into play. Before reading these posts, I would have "blindly" bought an Optima battery for my other cars, but now I will do a bit more research.
