Completely novice question: 996TT vs. GT3

What are the main differences? Considering the fact that they are in a similar price range, who buys the 996TT and who buys the GT3?

Thanks!

Track junkies buy GT3's
TT's are a hoot but cost alot to get to track status.

One point, other than mechanical: TT's are good if you have kids because you can always transport them in the back seat if you need (want) to. GT-3's don't have a back seat in order to save weight, among other reasons. The wife and I were just discussing today that it's a good thing I bought a TT vs. GT-3 since my 4-yr-old likes to ride in the back (she wants a purple and pink Porsche once she's old enough to drive). :-)

If you discuss GT3's and kids in the same conversation --the TT is the way to go.

If you are truely considering between these two, you HAVE to drive them back to back. The one for you will be immediately clear.

I was in the same boat when it came time to upgrade from a 993 C4S. I drove the 996tt and then the GT3. I wanted the GT3 2 minutes into the test drive.

Both the salesperson and my father prefered the TT. It will come down to your personal preference in driving "feel" and as others have said, whether you'll be tracking it a lot.

I don't think you can go wrong either way. They are both amazing cars.
