Anyone have GOOD experiences with CL lug/wheels?!
Anyone have GOOD experiences with CL lug/wheels?!
I've read and read and read some more and most people complain about the CL GT3's and go as far as to do the 5 lug conversion.
So is there anyone who hasn't had issues? Anyone that thinks people are paranoid or maybe just think it's a huge PITA and simply don't want the CL?
My CL's are new to me and yes, I am a tad apprehensive about the entire process but it's nothing I want to spend THOUSANDS of dollars on to remove.
Like most forums, you typically only hear about the bad..... rarely the good.

I've switched to 5 lugs.
I had no incident with CL. Done CL removal and yes it is not as easy as 5 lugs but doable.
The problem is that I have no trust to this CL system. Yes, there is only a few incidences of right rear wheel breaking off while tracking. But even one incident is too much to my tolerance.
Also, about this changing of rear hubs and front hubs after certain track miles...the money will eventually add up.
Putting these all together and I conclude that there is no reason for me not to switch.
Only about $3500 in parts and labour. Not bad for ease of use and peace of mind.

I switched to 5 lugs aswell.
Pretty much what Tagra Tim said
Also the 5 lug conversion makes switching wheels really easy and the wheel selection for 5 lugs is much greater than CL.

Selling your CL wheels shouldnt be a problem. There is a market for hubs and nuts but it is not as easy as compared to selling the CL wheels.
Depending on the condition of the wheels you should be able to get anywhere from $2500 to $3500. For the rest of the stuff you should be able to get around $1000.

I've had no issues with my 2010 GT3. Currently it had just logged its first 4000 track miles and the recall AC05 replaced the rear hubs and bearings on Porsche's warranty (no charge). The track miles were all driven at 7/10 at most and the maintenance were all done by myself or the dealer techs under my observation (to the letter of Porsche's technical bulletins). I also love the PCCB's that are on the car and are still on my 4th set of pads. Car has given me 20,000 miles of unadulterated pleasure to drive to and from the tracks without the need for trailers and other associated costs.
^This is correct. Take care of them and they will be ok.
Depends on what you are doing:
Tracking, swapping disc's, pads, wheels, tyres and messing with the suspension on a daily basis, a 5 lug conversion is the way to go.
Road use and car looked after by the dealer (most owners fall into this bracket- forums so a very squinted one sided view in my opinion), stick with CL's
There's obviously a middle ground but unless you fall into the first category there's better stuff to spend your money on.
Also note wheels have been falling off since the wheel was invented, it doesn't matter if they are CL, 3, 4 or 5 bolt configurations and 99% of theses incidents will be down to human error- not tightening, over torquing and incorrect fitment etc. Its easy to blame new technology instead of ones-self for error! A few videos and forums posts doesn't condemn the CL!
