Pulling transaxle on 2004 Ruf RGT
Pulling transaxle on 2004 Ruf RGT
Hey guys, long time listener, first time caller. I'm the head mechanic at Jaw Droppin' Customs in Corpus Christi, TX. I have a little Porsche experience as a mechanic with Peter Kendig at Car Czar also in Corpus. I've been caring for this RUF for about 6 months now, mainly fixing the front end when the owner wrecks it at the track. Anyways, we discovered a clutch issue so I started with the easy and cheap by changing the master cylinder and then the slave cylinder. The car uses the GT2 setup so it wasn't that hard. Neither of these repairs fixed the clutch disengaging issue. Shifting comes and goes. So my next course of action is to drop the tranny. Owner mentioned that a hard driver tracked the car for a day and that this guy shifts really hard. Apparently that is a big no-no in a Porsche as it can bend the shift fork. My plan is to pull the tranny, most likely replace the fork and throwout parts, and clutch if needed. Owner will most likely sell the car so a clutch change won't be wanted unless it's really bad.
Anybody have much info on Rufs? I know the car fairly well, but Ruf changed just enough thinks to make it annoying to get info and parts for the car. As I know the car, it's basically a GT3 with some GT2 parts, just minor tuning to get more power, and an expensive body kit.
I'm not sure if the car has much more differences that will screw me up if I follow basic Porsche tranny drop instructions on here.
Basically, this is a pretty special car and I want to make sure it's done correctly.

Gearbox should be just a regular GT3 box with possibly slightly different gearing as that was offered by RUF, mainly a taller 6th. On my car RUF used a Sachs Motorsport clutch with the Sachs 999 Motorsport pressure plate. All direct bolt on stuff. If you can work on a Porsche then you can work on a RUF.
I've got the transaxle out which wasn't that bad. I'm waiting on clutch parts before I can throw it back in. I gave her a good pressure washing and she looks brand new. I've heard the reinstall can be quite a pain.
