Lightbulb First 250 miles in my CGT...

Had the car 2.5 days now and it has nearly 300 miles on it. My brief initial reactions...

The car is incredible. It is much more unplugged than my Lamborghini. You really feel like you are in a cockpit of a fighter plane.

Yesterday I drove from San Diego to Irvine. I loaded some MP3s onto a memory card and inserted it into the slot. Worked like a charm.

I entered a destination into the Nav, and got going.

Driving the car is really easy. As i've heard others say, the clutch issue is a non-issue. It is no harder than any other clutch. The hardest part is just staying below 4000 or so RPMs during break in.

I had plenty of people hold up their cell phones for a photo. I also had my first 'got followed all the way home' experience. He followed me to my destination, saying he'd be behind me for a while. I told him that he's lucky I'm breaking the car in otherwise he'd never would have caught me.

This individual just wanted to know what it was. He said it looked like a modfied Boxster. He then asked how much it cost. I just said, "more than half a dozen Boxsters".

Few minor issues I had. The navigation 'crashed' and 'rebooted' halfway during my drive up. Not sure why. The roof panels made some rubbing, 'ticking' sound. When i picked up the car from the dealer, they had put some black tape where the panels latch on. We took that off, but perhaps it provided a snugger fit. I'll investigate.

Overall, it's pretty exicting. It's an experience to get into the car, and the journey is truly the best part. The yellow color and the exotic car look makes me feel like the sun is blasting down the highway, and it's too bright and fast for others to look at for too long. :-)

I'm going to Crystal Cove Saturday, maybe I'll see some of you there.

HAH! I was thinking the same thing. It's more life like when you read it her, rather than in Motor Trend or the like.

I am curious do you have a clear bra on your car? My reason for asking is that is a long ride with plenty of traffic . It usually leads to road debris striking the front end which is fairly noticeable on Yellow.

I did that ride a few times in my 2001 360 Spider which was Yellow and I had to have the front end repainted in a very short time.

Yes, I have a clear bra on it, had that put on before I took delivery of the car -- Enrico at Modern Image did an awesome job.

Yeah, that happens from time to time driving a CGT. But, really, it's not that scary.

Back when I first got mine, I had a sharp looking 964 turbo pass me going the opposite direction. He slowed as he recognized what I was driving, and I didn't give it another thought.

In about two or three minutes, I noticed him again in my rear-view mirror. He followed me for about a mile and then roared up beside me and asked if he could have a ride. He looked convincingly harmless, so I said, "OK."

He turned out to be a really nice guy and quite a Porsche fanatic. I drove him up a local freeway for one exit and back. We didn't get going insanely fast, but we had a good time. When we got back to the country club parking lot where we left his car, he thanked me profusely and offered to buy me a drink. Since I actually had to be somewhere in a few minutes, I declined the offer.

It was fun for me and he said he'd always have a great story to tell his friends.

Hi Fayence,

Congratulations on your new car. I like yellow very much and think it looks great on Carrera GTs.

What brand film did Modern Image use for your paint protection?

Black tape...

Hey Fayence,

The black tape actually came from the factory according to my dealer, they did not apply it, so we left it on. It does provide the top with a snug fit and we're not experiencing any noise issues. Give the tape a try and see if it fixes your problem.

Close to 300 miles in a couple of days...impressive. Keep on enjoying the car!

Cheers,
-Nick
