GSR Autosport - GT3 Mezger - Coolant Pipe Fix or Roll the Dice?
Planning on doing more and more track days with GSR, our customer was constantly haunted by the specter of an eventual Mezger GT1 Coolant Pipe Failure. Simply put, coolant dumping on the rear tires = a very bad day!
Despite his car being very low mile, he had done enough research on documented cases to make him rather uneasy (Thanks Internet)! It seemed that the coolant pipe replacement process was becoming the norm for GT2, GT3 and Turbo Cars with Mezger Engines. This is arguably the only ***** in the armor of the legendary Mezger GT1 Engine. Interestingly enough, Porsche Motorsport is still running variants of this engine in the 991 GT3 Cup and 991 RSR.
With these thoughts looming in the back of his mind, he was convinced he would not be able to focus on developing his driver skills/race craft until he put the ghost of the GT1 Coolant Pipe Issue to rest once and for all! After all, it’s safety first, right? He decided to proactively bring the car to GSR Autosport to address the issue and get what he so desperately need… piece of mind.

Coolant Pipe Fix
Thanks to Sharkwerks for making the fix relatively painless. In addition to pinning several critical hoses in place, the GT3 coolant pipe fix replaces 2 plastic o-ringed elbows (problematic) with some very nice stainless steel o-ringed replacements.
To find out more about the overall procedure feel free to give us a call or check out Sharkwerks Technical Article and video!

GT3 Performance Engine Mounts
With the Coolant Pipe Fix completed, we finished up the GT3 by adding RSS Performance Engine Mounts. These semi solid mounts offer more driver feedback, improved power delivery, more precise gear changes and enhanced chassis control/stability during acceleration, deceleration, and cornering.
Pm me the approx costs for this on my car, thinking about being proactive about it.
Thank you. Oh,
and while we are in there figure plugs and belt is about due....prefer an Indy vs the dealer.

GSR guys are one of the most honest and knowledgeable techs I've dealt with. It's definitely worth the drive for me even though I live about 40 miles away. Btw, that's my car in the pic.

Hi Aaron,
Looks like T-Rex06's wheel choice has pulled the wool over quite a few peoples eyes!
Could be a center lock alternative for you? Just saying...

Thanks for the kind words Terrance
I have had my 04 GT3 since it was new. Mostly a track car. Relatively low mileage car (28,000 miles). I mistakenly thought that I would need upwards to 40k miles before I had to address the coolant pipes.
I had a coolant fitting on the top of the engine work loose at the end of the Miller Motorsports straight. Since it was on top of the engine the coolant did not go on my tires, nor did I lose all of the coolant. The runoff is long at Miller but that straight is long and fast. If it would have gone halfway up I could have hit the wall, or those behind me could have hit the wall. I was towed off the track. I was not able to drive the next day and worked on gluing the fitting in and then spent most of the day trying to get air out of the system. After I drove home, I then had all of the fittings glued and pinned.
It is not a matter of if, it is a matter of when. Have those fittings fixed.
