My car is arriving at the port this month. I should be able to bring her home next month. Should I go with the old fashioned way to " break in " the engine? or drive it the way it should be driven?

 

My dealer master tech. guys tell me for the first 500 miles respect the 4500rpm limit with occasional boosts. Respect the limits for the steel brakes.
After that GO CRAZY.

 

The real question is, if you are going to be able to resist it?

 

LOL I think it would be very hard to go soft on the throttle pedal since such a long wait. I guess I will still take her slow for the first hundred miles.

 

That's exactly the same thing I say when I get a car. I can never stay true to that statement.

 

A couple hundred miles so far. Have gone up to 7K a few times. In sport exhaust the POP this baby gives off at 4K+ is worth the price of admission.

 

Drove my friend's 991 GT3 today, did a few 9k rpm pull from 2nd to 3rd and half way to 4th. reminds me of the sensation feeling of S2000 Vtec that kicks in @ 6000 RPM and pull hard to 9000. the 991 GT3 felt similar to that. what a blast to drive.

 

I take delivery of my 2015 GT3 end of December, reading posts like yours gets me all excited!

 

I had the same question about breaking it in. User guide says to keep rpm below 4200 (or 4000 don't recall) for 2,000 miles! That seems impossible to actually adhere to.

Just picked up my brand new gt3 from the dealer on Friday. What a car. Never owned a Porsche before. Drove around the mountain roads in SoCal this morning. Amazing and I wasn't pushing it hard but I couldn't keep it below 4000. That's torture. I need to go on a long drive and rack up some miles.

So fortunate to be able to own a car like this!

 

I've broken in several new Porsches over the years and I always did it by the book. And I always did oil analysis. Never saw anything odd in the oil. Had I taken the car to the track the first weekend would the results have been any different? I don't really know. I just like being able to tell the next owner the car was broken in per the manual.

I'm not sure ... 991 GT3 drives really really nice, have more confident driving it. The car feels very stable. And it's very comfortable. The 997 RS feels more like a go-kart and 10 years older

It's more like comparing a 90s era GTR R32/33/34 to a modern R35
