About to place GT3 order... first P car for me.
About to place GT3 order... first P car for me.
After having owned just about every brand out there, I've not experienced a Porsche of any kind. After reading reviews and speaking with some friends that have had them in the past and also waiting for their 15 MY to arrive, I'm convinced it's worth a shot.
Not to mention the value they are expected to hold.
White looks stunning, but seems like everyone is going that route. Not sure what color, but definitely getting the lightweight sport seats without a doubt. Are there any other "must have" options that make resale more attractive. Just don't want to option it out like crazy and lose big time like I'm about to with my current 458.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I won't banter on about how amazing the 991 GT3 is... IT IS ASTONISHING!
Just a couple of questions and points.
Have you got an allocation with a confirmed commission number and a build schedule? Make sure the dealer has that for you BEFORE you hand over anything.
I had a similar dilemma in that I didn't want to over spec the car but I did need it to have the creature comforts and what are in my opinion, the must have's (
).
Here is my spec and also what I consider necessary:
GT Silver Metallic - Its a stunning color and I am glad I paid the extra $3k and got it. Color choice is a matter of personal choice and you have to go with whatever floats your boat. I do know that I wouldn't compromise on color and it is something I have to be happy with.
Leather Interior in Black/Alcantara® with Stitching in Platinum Grey - (
) I love the full leather interior and would not spend too much more money on other trim bits in leather or carbon.
Extended Range Fuel Tank $0 - (
) Its free, take it.
Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS) - (
) Def choose the pdls over the standard lights. I decided against pdls in black as I liked the normal color with my bodywork (GT Silver)
Automatically Dimming Mirrors with Integrated Rain Sensor - (
) Safe and useful always wins. So I choose it.
Headlight Cleaning System Covers in exterior color - Not a biggie but I choose it.
Front Axle Lift System - This is the biggie at $3,490. After having it, I'm glad I choose it. IMO, it is (
) a def option. Firstly, its because of the way the front splitter is installed on this GT3 as opposed to previous versions. The splitter is mounted directly in front of the bumper base and damage will most likely result in the bumper itself being mangled! It could be a $6k expense! Secondly, I think resale values will be affected by the inclusion of this option. I could sit on the fence on this but I'd say its a must have!
20" GT3 Wheels
Luggage Net in Passenger Footwell $0 - Free take it
Smoking Package $0 Floor Mats - Free take it
Adaptive Sport Seats Plus (18-way) $2,635 - The comfort level and adjustability of these seats is amazing and i love them. IMO, if back issues or comfort are an issue, go for it. I'm very happy i choose these seats but its about personal choice. I suggest you try out the seats at your dealership and decide.
Sound Package Plus $700 - Get PCM and get this option.
HD Radio Receiver $370 - I didn't want the nasty XM Sirius wart on my roof and also didn't want to deal with Sirius customer service in the future. So I only got HD radio and I'm ok with this. The soundtrack of the engine is the masterpiece. BTW, using bluetooth you can stream pandora etc anyway.
Porsche Communication Management $0 (PCM) incl. Navigation Module - (
) Must have for nav, etc.
Online Services - not essential but I got this for streaming AHA (I like to listen to BBC radio 2,4) from iPhone to the PCM. Works fine.
Thats basically it. My car came in under a shade $150k and I wouldn't change a single option. I didn't need or miss heated seats and nor does my wife!
Let me know how your order develops.
Good luck... you're going to love this car! It is SPECIAL!

Thanks for the great response! I'm on the fence about the front lift. It will only be a weekend car.... so not sure I'll need it as I would if it were a dd. I like the led headlight option, but that too is kinda pricey.
How do you guys feel about doing an exclusive color option. Mexico blue perhaps?
I just put deposit down for a March delivery. They have a January delivery spot left that is closing any day now, but waiting till March will buy me time to sell my 458, and no need for January delivery living in Chicago area with brutal Winters on top of it!
I'm going in this evening to complete build, so assuming that is when I'll receive commission #?

Afaik, by all accounts apart from a few stragglers (those who have ordered lightweight bucket seats) regular GT3 production is meant to stop in December.
After having owned just about every brand out there, I've not experienced a Porsche of any kind. After reading reviews and speaking with some friends that have had them in the past and also waiting for their 15 MY to arrive, I'm convinced it's worth a shot.

Are there any other "must have" options that make resale more attractive. Just don't want to option it out like crazy and lose big time like I'm about to with my current 458.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Sold my 2012 458 (red) a month ago and have a 2015 GT3 (white) arriving in 30 days
GT3 is an amazing car for the money. Similar performance to the 458 for waay less money. And you can actually put miles on these cars without losing your rear end regarding depreciation

I have had a 993, 993 Turbo, 997 Turbo so I am excited to get back in a Porsche.
My build is
White
Black leather/alacantara interior with platinum stitching
PCCB ceramic brakes
18 way power sport seats
Front lifter
Yellow seat belts
Leather setbacks with platinum stitching
Leather dash with platinum stitching
Carbon interior package
Carbon center console
Sport chrono package
LED headlights
Exterior headlight washers in ext color
smoking package free
luggage net free
PCM module of nab etc.. free
floor mats free
Exclusive paint ($6k PTS) orders are not being accepted by the factory any more. Your dealer should have told you. Also, if they have a confirmed build slot they should have a commission number now. Make sure they do.

As mentioned, I love it in White, but I like to have something a bit more unique from the norm. White has to account for over 50% of production on this model already.

Ugh… don't remind me. I'm actually considering passing on them this time. I've had them on my past 3 cars, but only because I bought used and they were either standard or optioned by original owner. Love the look and the fact that they leave barely no brake dust, (and in this case, prefer the yellow calipers that only come with them) but not sure about going nearly $10k more on the build. I'm at about $145k now, and really wanted to stay under $150.

if you've owned one without them, you know what I'm talking about.
Salesman wasn't sure about PTS at this time. I did confirm and he gave me my commission #. Going to research more now and play around on configurator before I go into dealer and submit the build there. Excited but nervous at the same time. I told myself I would NEVER buy another brand new higher end caliber car after taking a beating on a Lambo a few years ago.
Thanks for sharing! I'm at a loss for color and spec at the moment. Need to figure it out quick. Has anyone seen the Metallic White being offered in person?

I have not seen Metallic White in person but the members that have purchased it seem to love that color. I went back and forth between GT silver and White. I ended up with White. White is probably over 60%, (maybe more I don't know) of all GT3's but White looks amazing and I think that is why it is soo popular. All of the cars angles and scoops, flairs, intakes etc just pop out with the White exterior.
I went a little nuts on my build, its $165,000. PCCB brakes, Lifter, LED, and full BLK/Alacantara with platinum stitching soaked up a bunch of money in a hurry. I wanted to stay around 155 max but had to have the PCCB's being my last 2 cars (2008 F430, and 458 Italia) had ceramic brakes. I love the feel, they look great, and no brake dust. I won't track much if ever so a non issue for me with wear. I plan to keep this car for awhile so the heavier MSRP was not a huge deal. At least for now, these cars are holding values if not selling selling over MSRP
. That will change yes, but with limited supply, production ending soon for the RS I think you should not be scared to option your car up and get exactly what you want in your GT3. This was my viewpoint anyhow. I too have lost large chunks of money on cars. I lost a decent amount on a new Aston Martin years ago, but this car is different and will hold values better so it seems! Best of luck with the build, Go to the 3D configutor on the Porsche website, you can drive yourself bananas doing the build online, its a blast.

Hey Tommy!
Forget the PCCB - 3rd Gt3 for me and this will be my 3rd without them - you just dont need them. Only benefit on a daily basis is no brake dust. I know you detail your cars weekly like I do so you really dont have to worry about the dust.
definitely get the sport bucket seats.
You really dont need the sport chrono on the GT3... if it were a turbo, I'd say yes. No real benefit on the GT3.

I know I already sent this to you, but some things on my build that I would recommend... add some leather. Where the leather goes, the stitching goes too. small things like the sun visors or instrument surrounds look really nice. Extended leather package. illuminated door sills as well.

Apparently, they only do PTS for a short window and you basically roll the dice and hope your allocation falls within that window. I've heard mixed stories on when that window actually happens... some say beginning of model year production, others say end.

I too am hoping value holds much better than my past McLaren and 458. Shoulda just kept my White scud from 2 years back!

FYI, paint to sample is closed. no more for 2015 production, from what I was told. Mexico Blue was my plan as well.
Apparently, they only do PTS for a short window and you basically roll the dice and hope your allocation falls within that window. I've heard mixed stories on when that window actually happens... some say beginning of model year production, others say end.

One thing I can say is this.... options are much more reasonable than the likes of Lambo, Ferrari and McLaren.
The only one I felt was ridiculously priced is the Headlight nozzles painted body color.... for $295.00!!!!! I mean they're the size of your finger tip!
Love your spec though. One thing I may or may not delete is the Aluminum pedals and footrest. They do look much better and catch the eye every time you open the door, but $625 is kinda steep i.m.o.
Front lift... still on the fence about. I really think I'll be fine without. If it were a daily driver, I would definitely be more prone to adding it.
