Amazing time, and this is with a 260lbs driver who made few mistakes. A factory driver will squeeze another 2 seconds easily.
It seems the issue with Z06 topspeed is not overheating, its due to the tune and amount of downforce it generates.
It is growing on me again, but avoid 1st year production if you want one.

Porsche 818 lap time? The question is: driven by WHOM?. The only valid comparison is lap times by Porsche factory work drivers, such as Mark Lieb or others. Otherwise it's comparing apples with oranges.

Jim Mero is a professional test driver for GM. The 918 times are by the drivers from Car and Driver magazine, so it isn't fair comparison. But, it certainly is impressive that a car under $100K can post those types of times. It will be interesting when the track season comes around to see if the Z06 can sustain the summer heat.

Absolutely correct.
The 918 is four wheel drive and drives out of corners like no other, all things equal, set up, tyres and professional driver I don't see it. Not to mention what would happen if there was constant lapping for a lengthy time. That said, at 107K it's quite a value. Question is as always would you drive it? It's getting closer...

It's not legitimately faster than the 918. The 918 is easily a 2:30's car with a factory shoe in it. And I also doubt a factory driver is going to beat mero by 2 seconds in the Z. His job is driving the street car fast. They will be faster, but 2 seconds at that level is an eternity. Not gonna happen.
We will see what's really up with the Car and Driver guys get their mits on a C7Z and put a more tame time on it in line with all of the other non GM tested times on it.
