GT2 beats a C6 ZO6

Do you know any Z's sitting on dealer lots collecting dust?

I want to agree with both sides of this argument but we simply cannot have two "fastest" cars. I think we've decided that the Z has a slight edge in the straight line... this is assuming that the man who beat the Z06 was, in fact, lying about his mods. We've also managed to find that the C6Z06 is leaps and bounds beyond the C5 when it comes to handling and braking (and acc/speed). With that said, we cannot conclude that the Z06 is now competitive with the GT2 in handling. The 60-0 stopping time is virtually irrelevant because nobody takes turns at 0mph and we cannot extrapolate this info to include high speed braking where it will matter the most. We've also been able to compare two dis-similar tests at the Nurburgring which, in case you havn't noticed yet, are meaningless because there are several variables present that must be considered before any comparison can take place.
I am swayed toward the GT2 because I don't think that GM could possibly make a car so cheap (no offense, just the best word I could think of) for so long and then magically hit a lucky note that allows for their car to be competitive with some of the quickest cars in the world. I do believe that GM put alot of time and money into the new Vette and that they made stellar improvements that have put the C6Z06 into an extrordinary spot in the market. All benchmarks aside, the new Z06 now has the respect it needs to chip away at the foreign exotic car market and the next few years will be very exciting to see.
I know I'm swayed toward Porsche but please don't flame me for my opinion.

Well you haven't heard about the C6Z brake recall yet:
"As I understand the problem, it’s caused by contamination of the wheel speed sensor, where ferrous debris (most of it likely from the rotors and semi-metallic pads) sticks to the sensor and either causes a mechanical misalignment of the sensor or a magnetic short circuit. In either case, the sensor’s ability to determine the wheel speed is impaired. When this happens, it’s likely that the ABS system interprets the lost signal as a locked wheel, and begins to decrease brake pressure. This obviously has the effect of increasing stopping distances. Because the problem is corrosion-related, the recall is only being performed in 14 northern states. This is the same problem that caused GM to recall 150,000 Canadian trucks earlier in the year, when perhaps it was thought that salt corrosion could be stopped at border checkpoints."
Well actually this was for GM trucks, but the same technology no doubt is used on the C6Z. You could imagine a recall just like this on any GM car. Point is GT2 brakes share technology with F1 cars .. you will get the same stopping distance 1000 times over on end as the C6Z test a one time deal. Same thing on the ring ... one time deal and then dispose the car. Also there is no proof what type of tire was used or how much power that particular car made.

Also the PCCB are not the same as the brakes an F1 cars use. F1 cars use a carbon/carbon brake disks and pads. PCCBs are carbon/ceramic with ceramic pads.

You make the weakest arguments. You are right, there was no recall on porsches ever, just a bunch of pissed off owners switching to steel brakes. I've been to many empty porsche dealerships, went through one tonight to check out the cayman. Was there for 30 minutes one other person walked in and he was there for the same reason as me. They make appx 40K vettes a year for a long time, of course you are going to see all kinds in for repairs. I don't think i've ever been to a porsche dealership where the repair bays were empty. Regardless, you go from talking about the new Z into back peddling your way into all types of bull**** instead of trying to stick to what other people are talking about. You don't like the Z, you think all the times and claims are false, you think it's the biggest POS ever. Yet when asked if you'd driven it, seen it, been willing to drive it all your answers were; NO, Nope, never want to drive it. Good critical thinker you are.
You bring in such trivial ****, it has zero to do w/ the argument. I wish I could be like everyone else and ignore your off the wall comments but I can't. There is no doubt porsche builds a better car then chevy. But for the price, they better.

No I was not referring to you, you've been quite civil in this debate. Ive just seen a lot of crazed Z06 fanatics dissing everything left and right on various forums and places.

And as far as rubbing it in, nobody is doing that, atleast not me. What I am doing is defending the Z06 ONLY when people make ignorant comments and are clueless about cars. For example, someone said "It is fast in a straight line but it will get ***** slapped around a track". How can someone say something soo idiotic? Who in thier right minds would say that about a car that has one of the best lap times ever recorded for a factory street car and has recorded over 1.10 on the skidpad??

What mods did the GT2 have?
Did you guys determine what modifications that GT2 had in order to crush that poor helpless Z06? Whatever they were, I want the same ones.
From what I have been reading, the new Z06 is a monster. I think it is in every car magazine this month. In fact, Car and Driver said it went 0 to 60 in 3.4 seconds and 0 to 150 in the 17 second range. That is very very quick. Seriously, I don't think a stock GT2 could match those times. If that GT2 put 10 car lengths on a C6 Z06, it must have some serious mods.
It must have been a total shock for that mighty C6 Z06 owner when he got left in the dust by that GT2. It would have been priceless to see the expression on his face.

A C6 Z06 just dynoed at 480 rwhp BONE STOCK on the vet forums, if you would like, I can send you the link.

How much rwhp do you think that GT2 had?
I don't know whose GT2 creamed that Z06, but it sure was not anywhere near stock. I have never raced a new Z06, but my brief experiences in them was that they are faster than a stock GT2. However, that interior is hideous and reeks of cheap plastic.
As a comparison, I have run against a Ford GT in my GT2, and I got crushed by the Ford. I did not have a chance, it just pulled away from the moment we rolled on the throttle. I read in one of the comparison tests (Motor Trend?) that the Ford GT was only a hair quicker than the Z06.
The Z06 has 505 hp and also has a slight weight advantage. I also read the Vette makes closer to 530 hp. I would bet a stock Z06 would easily out run a stock GT2 in any acceleration contests. For only $66k, the Z06 is a definitely the bang for the buck deal of the century. We should all give Chevy credit for building an affordable supercar. This will hopefully push Porsche to raise the bar on the 997 TT and GT2s.
Personally, I could care less that a Vette is faster than my GT2. In my opinion, the GT2 is superior overall and not to mention tons better looking.
Kudos to the GT2 owner that absolutely embarassed that Z06. AWESOME KILL!!!

Just imagine what a Z06 could do with twin turbos. Now that would be scary.
