2003 GT2 vs. 2004 GT2
I have read articles regarding the differences between the two model years mentioned in the title to this thread. Essentially, the rags I have read gushed about the '04 model year car.
Given the fact that I am considering purchasing a "previously loved" '03 GT2, what do those of you with seat time in both cars have to say about the differences in the two cars, if any?
Thanks in advance.

sorry, no seat time in either, but i believe reading that for 04 the suspension was revised and the ecu was updated for manufacutrer rating of 483hp and 472 ft.lb and has some bare carbon touches like mirrors, wing, and front radiator duct

I believe Les Q. in LV had both and still has an 05 car. He says the difference is basically unoticable. If you mod the car, the earlier cars are the better deal. All are obviously great rides.

The 2004 had some updated suspension pieces in the rear, different springs, revalved shocks and a 477 hp vs 456, GT3 style wheels and carbon mirrors, wing and front bumper air vent came in carbon fibre (versus car color) as a no cost option. Otherwise they were pretty much the same.
I did some research on this and looked into the changes, basically some geometry changes in the rear, consistant with the GT3. So it was an eveolution of the car, making it handle better.
Much of the positive press on the 2004 was due to it handling better (not so twitchy). Early GT2's seemed to all come from the factory with poor alignment settings. GT3's had similar alignment problems. AS mentioned above Les Q. had a 2002, 2003, 2004 and now a 2005 and he stated no reason to update pieces.
The only 2004 for sale I know of is Les Q's old car, now at RPM in Texas. Red car, very nice, but expensivie. only 20 2004's came to the USA and only 5 2005's.
Good luck!

I have owned an 02 an 04 and still own an 05 GT2. I couldn't feel the difference in acceleration with the uprated HP in the seat of the pants and never tracked the 04 so I can't provide lap times. IMHO 20 HP on a 3100 pound car is near impossible to feel but I imagine reasonable minds could differ. The carbon mirrors and wing were a no cost option.
The 04s have a softer ride for the street and according to Ray Joseph from RPM who now has my 04 GT2 and has driven 02, 03s and 04 GT2s he really likes the 04 much better from a everyday driver standpoint and finds it to have a world of difference in comfort.
In terms of value all the 04 offers IMHO is the exclusivity of being one of 24 imported to the US. My understanding based on reading Porsche press release's is that in 2002 184 GT2s were imported. In 2003 90 GT2s were imported. For 2004 24 were imported and for 2005 five were imported to North America. Of the 05s three were CGT silver one arctic silver (mine) and the last one built was black.
From my perspective the 04 and 05 GT2s are more a collector type car. The better value from a driving and weekend track use standpoint would be an 02 or 03. I only sold my 04 because of a muscle car buying frenzy that left me with limited storage space. If I had it to do over again I would have kept it and driven the snot out of it.

ps: sorry for the horrible photography, the lighting and space wasn't that great...
As far as i know that was an 05 GT2. Maybe the 5 for NA you were talking about were for the US, not including what Canada was alotted. He said that was the only 05 GT2 for Canada.
