The 996 is a great car, and it is not my intention to diss it in any way. The 997 is a different car with newer technology. In my opinion, it is like comparing a F360 and F430. I love the F430, but the F360 is priced a lot more attractive. Things change for the better.

Thats a good point, I would also consider a 996 GT3 and with the money you save on depreciation ($20K+) I would have a manthey 410 package done to it with a few dollars to spare!

That is the downside to new cars -- you don't want to do too much to them. You can mod a 996 and feel good about what you are doing.

Great input from everyone, the advice is appreciated. I have decided the 997 GT3 is the way to go. Now which color...?

The 360 and 430 are the same class of car. The GT3 and GT2 are not.

GT2 vs. GT3

I will be buying a 2003 GT2. I also thought it over seriously on waiting on the GT3 (997) to be released.

Problem is these cars, regardless of how excited we get when they first come out ,and dealers frequently want over sticker for these cars, they will drop at least 20% in the first year.

The 02-03s GT2s are in the 120k range and they are completely different from GT3s...... GT2s are more in the higher end exotics market and GT3s are great for drivers who want normally aspirated , light weights turn key track day cars......
I do agree they are different classes of cars!
