That way you can raise it up 2 feet and then slam it all with the touch of a button.
If you get hydraulics with enough switches for yo *****es, you can make that **** dance. Then if you get some spinners, yo car can be doin the moonwalk! Yea yea...

Interesting thread. Attend a Grand Am event and speak with Porsche Drivers and Team Owners/Engineers, I don't think any of them would recommend 19's for the street nor the track for a 996 GT3. The GT3 is the most precision engineered street car built by Porsche for the masses (small mass but still larger market than Carrera GT). The comment on 17's actually is not as crazy as it sounds. From an asthetic standpoint 19's make all 996's look better but doesn't improve handling ability unless a lot of engineering goes along with suspension changes. There aren't to many wheel/tire gurus that can exceed the Porsche expertise from the factory. Just my .02 worth.

19" are ok for street and track. 18" are ok as well. The Porsche 911 GT2 that won both the 2005 SCCA National Solo and 2005 SCCA National ProSolo was running 17" rear wheels.
It's really a combination of tire diameter, tire brand and model, wheel width, wheel diameter, alignment, etc. There is no such thing as the optimum suspension/wheel/tire design on the stock GT3. The factory has to make compromises to fulfill a one-size-fits-all, something that passes regulations in all the intended markets, cold/hot, wet/dry, bumpy/smooth, slow/fast driving.
My 18" V710 tires are much stiffer and make my car more bumpy than my 19" MPS2, but they're my choice of DOT-R tire for Solo events. For the track, the very stiff 18" Michelin Pilot SX Slicks are outstanding.
I've tracked the car on the 19" wheels/tires at Pocono , driving the same line without complaints.
My few cents...

what's funny to be about thi sthread is why isn't the level of scrutiny in upsizing wheels not applied to the Turbo? The turbo is just as much a performance car as the GT3, but just amplified in diff areas.
i'd say go for it, but make sure it's a one piece forged wheel (e.g. BBS RGR). it's not like you're gonna be stupid and go with the wrong diameter tires or anything.

so give the dude a break. he's going to be running great looking 19s on the street and 18s at the track. the fact that he's even tracking the car puts him in less of a poser land.
the GT3 is a 911 and a 911 is a flashy ride. with the 19s, it'll look proportionate. to the fellas who think they even begin to have a clue about suspension tuning (black magic) and try to create lesson plans via web threads WHAHAHHAHAH.... it's armchair QBing at its worse (or best depending on how u look at it).

Those NEEZ SEK wheels in 18X11/8.5 would be good on the GT3.
From this shot I can tell the nose is WAY to far off the ground and the rear looks like it's going to rub pretty bad. Not to point anything bad out, but it seems the performance of the car is going to go south at this setting.
mine,
