GT3RS - a keeper?
GT3RS - a keeper?
Does anyone know if Porsche made any specific statements about how many GT3RS's will be sent to the US market or even overall? I have not heard if there is a limit on production numbers and wonder how this applies to the new GT2 as well. In terms of production numbers, it would seem that the 996 GT2 (both mk1&2) have the lowest number(approx 300 over 4yrs) of their recent water cooled cars. I think the 996Turbo S and Turbo S convertible might also be on the list. This is likely all be tied to demand. Given their stated strategy for higher yearly production, it's interesting that Porsche does not or can not use the "limited production" marketing gambit these days.

Nelson,
I was told early on that the RS would be limited to about 220 in the USA. But the 996 RS was to be limited to 400 cars, and they built something like 680. Total 996 GT2 production was like 990. Turbo S Coupes are probably the rarest, as they made mostly cabs.
I think the 996 GT3 RS and GT2 will be the most collectable. The 997 RS and GT2 will be the next wave of technology etc... The 996's might be the last pure driving Porsches ever made, barring their race cars.
I think you should buy a certain Seal Grey GT2, not the blue one or the black one!

Like I said, terrific deals to be had on the limited production GT2 these days. Of the 990 total production, I believe only about 300 were shipped stateside. I'd add the GT3 and CGT on the list of last pure driving Porsche's. I'd bet they don't keep RS production down to 220 cars.
There are only 300 996 GT2's in the U.S., yet I don't see the price drop stopping.
Don't know why that is. A three year old Ferrari with a U.S. shipment of 300 would still be trading for way over MSRP. But not Porsche. I should know, I have a GT2.

Thats what makes this car such a bargain today. Theres too much content here for it to continue to slide much lower. We'll see.
