The PORSCHE 959 was presented for the first time at the IAA in 1983 in Frankfurt still as study of the group B. Two years later in September 1985 the PORSCHE 959 was presented officially at the IAA and was then delivered from 1986 to 1988 to its orderers.
The PORSCHE 959 vehicles are particularly high-quality High Tech automobiles. Beside the electronically controlled all-wheel drive a newly developed level adjustment system dependent on speed was used. It lowers the PORSCHE 959 at high speeds automatically to the value required for safety reasons.
For safety reasons the PORSCHE 959 has been provided a tire pressure notice, which lights up individually for each wheel, if the air pressure does not correspond to the instruction.
At low speed the operator can select the clearance. An additional high position is envisaged for special situations, e.g. getting free in terrain. The level control of the PORSCHE 959 is done by an electronically controlled hydraulic system.
Through the four-wheel drive of the PORSCHE 959 one can also under detrimental conditions bring the high service safely onto the road. Two electronically controlled multiple disk clutches correct the torque for the front and/or rear wheels. The operator can program the employment for conditions like dry or wet roadway, ice and snow or heavy terrain.
Motor: four valves per cylinder in v-arrangement hydraulic stems, with 2 overhead cam shafts each, supplied with chain drive, light alloy cylinder heads, 8-fold mounted crankshafts - Lubrication with 18 L oil contents and 2 oil coolers, 2 superchargers and 2 intercoolers. Motoronic, digitally controlled.
Chassis: Self-supporting body structure of steel sheet, double wishbones at both shafts, wheel suspension: in each case 1 Ferderbein + 1 parallel silencer strut. Steering rack. Vierrad disc brakes with servo support. Tyre in front: 235/45 VR 17, rear: 255/275/40 VR 17
The PORSCHE 959 belongs today to the particularly valuable collectors' vehicles. The value of these vehicles has been very stable since 1991 on a high level and is approximately ¬ 200,000.- to over ¬ 300,000.-. ''
